ATCS is seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer or Roadway Engineering Project Manager to join our growing Virginia transportation team. This is a hybrid position based in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach or Newport News) or Glen Allen, offering the opportunity to work on high-profile VDOT and municipal roadway projects while helping shape the future of our roadway design practice.
What You'll Do
As a key member of our team, you'll lead and contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of roadway infrastructure projects throughout Virginia. You'll have the opportunity to:
  • Design and manage VDOT and municipal roadway projects from concept through construction
  • Develop roadway plans, profiles, typical sections, maintenance of traffic plans, and cost estimates
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project stakeholders
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers while supporting team growth
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, and public agencies
  • Participate in public meetings and help drive successful project outcomes

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 6+ years of roadway design experience, preferably in Virginia
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates licensed in other states will be considered with a commitment to obtain Virginia licensure
  • Experience with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD); Civil 3D experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of AASHTO, VDOT, and local design standards and practices
  • Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $125,000 to $175,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary.
