Job description

DIETARY AIDE
Job Description:
The Dietary Aide performs all designated work and cleaning routines for the Dietary Department. The Dietary Aide reports to the Dietary Manager. In the absence of the Dietary Manager, Dietary Aide reports to the Dietary Cook.
Essential Job Duties:
โ€ข Perform defined work routines, using various dietary utensils, supplies and equipment as assigned by the Dietary Manager.
o Provide assistance to the cook in the preparation and service of meals.
o Meet scheduled meal and snack times.
o Follow Federal and State long-term care regulations and Dietary Department policies and procedures.
o Follow cleaning schedules and performs cleaning duties as scheduled.
o Assist in arranging tray cards, loading food carts, and serving meals.
o Setting up the dining room and serving residents.
o Wash and store dishes.
โ€ข Follow established reporting procedures for the following:
o Inform supervisor of supply or equipment needs.
o Any damaged or loose fixtures, flooring, or tiling requiring replacement or repair.
o Any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment.
o Any conditions conducive to breeding insects, rodents or other vermin.
โ€ข Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies.
โ€ข Attend in-service educational programs.
โ€ข Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties.
โ€ข Follow defined Infection Control procedures.
โ€ข Must demonstrate a moderate level of computer literacy in order to use and access our systems and tools within our facilities to complete online tasks and documentation.
โ€ข Must be able to effectively communicate and interact professionally with staff and residents.
โ€ข Understand facility's fire and disaster plans; follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies.
โ€ข Must be knowledgeable of Federal, State, and Facility's rules, regulations, policies and procedures as it relates to safe food handling.
โ€ข Perform other department duties or special assignments as directed by the Dietary Manager.
Qualifications & Education:
  • High school graduate preferred.

  • Previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions, follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments in English.

  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.

  • Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals.

  • Motor coordination and manual dexterity are required for various work routines such as preparing food items, serving trays, handling soiled dishes, operating dietary equipment and cleaning work area.

  • Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation. Must be patient and tolerant toward staff, residents, and family members.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand and walk intermittently throughout the working day.

  • Must be able to Reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and manipulate various food products, dietary supplies and equipment.

  • Must be able to work with chemicals and cleaning agents.

  • Must be able to lift, push, and carry 40 pounds with 2 hands. Must be able to lift, push, and carry 20 pounds with 1 hand.

  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to temperature and humidity changes as in entering refrigerated storage areas, working at ovens, ranges, dishwashing machines, and at steam tables.

  • Must be free from infectious diseases.
