Job description

Position Overview
AT-RISK International is seeking experienced Protective Security Drivers to support secure transportation for high-profile government officials in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
This assignment will utilize a two-driver model consisting of Primary Security Drivers and Secondary (Backup) Drivers to ensure continuous coverage, operational continuity, and consistent client support. Flexibility, reliability, and consistent availability are essential to this assignment.
This position is designed for a seasoned Executive Protection professional with advanced defensive driving capabilities who understands that secure transportation extends beyond driving to include advance planning, threat awareness, route analysis, operational coordination, and sound judgment.
Candidates must be capable of operating independently while maintaining close coordination with AT-RISK International Operations and client stakeholders to ensure safe, discreet, and professional transportation services.
Because the principal's schedule is driven by official government business, assignments will vary weekly. While schedules are typically provided in advance, last-minute changes, extended hours, early starts, evenings, and occasional weekends are expected.
Core Responsibilities
Secure Transportation Operations
  • Provide secure transportation for a high-profile government official throughout Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.
  • Serve as either Primary Driver (assigned lead coverage) or Secondary Driver (backup / surge coverage) as scheduled.
  • Conduct advance route planning including primary, alternate, and contingency routes.
  • Maintain continuous situational awareness and identify potential threats or security concerns.
  • Review operational intelligence, schedules, and movement details prior to assignments.
  • Coordinate movements with Operations Management, client representatives, venue personnel, and law enforcement as appropriate.
  • Support advance planning for special events, high-visibility movements, and extended itineraries.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all client and operational information.
  • Provide timely operational updates including start/end of shift, arrivals, departures, delays, and incidents.
  • Immediately report all security concerns, accidents, medical issues, or operational disruptions.
  • Complete required operational documentation in accordance with company procedures.

Vehicle Operations & Readiness
  • Conduct pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections.
  • Ensure vehicle is clean, fueled, and operationally ready at all times.
  • Coordinate rental vehicle pickup and return as directed.
  • Maintain emergency equipment and operational supplies within the vehicle.
  • Monitor and immediately report any mechanical or safety-related issues.
  • Maintain professional standards of vehicle presentation and operational readiness at all times.

Administrative & Communication Requirements
  • Maintain consistent communication with AT-RISK Operations via approved secure platforms.
  • Submit accurate timesheets, mileage logs, receipts, and expense documentation on time.
  • Complete operational reports and assignment documentation as required.
  • Attend required briefings, check-ins, and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of protective operations.

Required Qualifications & Professional Standards
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements and consistently demonstrate the following professional standards:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Executive Protection, law enforcement, military, or comparable protective security role.
  • Graduation from a recognized protective/defensive driving program (VDI, AS3, LaSorsa, government equivalent, or similar).
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Driver familiarity of Washington, DC region and routes.
  • DCJS Armed Personal Protection Specialist registration (Virginia).
  • Valid Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit.
  • Current CPR / First Aid / AED certification.
  • Ability to successfully complete federal background investigation and obtain required credentials.
  • Ability to pass required drug screening.

Candidates must also demonstrate:
  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong situational awareness and sound judgment under pressure.
  • Professional demeanor, appearance, and conduct suitable for high-profile assignments.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and timely operational reporting.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to evolving operational requirements and dynamic environments.
  • Commitment to maintaining a high standard of client service and security awareness.

Confidentiality Notice
This position involves access to highly sensitive information, including principal movements, schedules, residences, travel details, and operational procedures. Strict confidentiality is required at all times. Unauthorized disclosure of any client or operational information will result in immediate removal from the assignment and may result in additional corrective action.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting advance work or protective route planning in dynamic environments.
  • Familiarity with Washington, DC metro roadways, federal facilities, and surrounding jurisdictions.
  • Understanding of protective intelligence principles.
  • Emergency medical or tactical medical training.
