Job Description

Metis Technology Solutions, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced IT systems administrator to lead a team supporting the Aerospace, Research, Technology, and Simulation (ARTS) contract at NASA Ames Research Center. NASA Ames Simulation Laboratories (SimLabs) at NASA Ames Research Center consists of the Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS), with a 60 ft. vertical motion system and interchangeable cabs, which can be customized to simulate any aerospace vehicle; and Future Flight Central (FFC), an Air Traffic Control/Air Traffic Management (ATC/ATM) simulation facility dedicated to solving present and emerging capacity problems of the nation's airports. The team also administers multiple on-premise and cloud systems that support ongoing software development and air traffic management research projects.


This position is NOT eligible for remote work. All work will be performed at NASA Ames Research Center. Must meet eligibility requirements for a US Government Public Trust Clearance.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the hands-on lead of a small team of experienced systems administrators at NASA Ames and the NASA/FAA North Texas Research Station (NTX)
  • Manage IT projects from planning to include requirements definition/review, cost estimates and scheduling, through implementation
  • Supervise day-to-day activities of staff, including prioritization of tasks to meet customer requirements
  • Perform IT security plan management, administration, and compliance. Assist other senior systems administrators in responding to security audits
  • Develop and update documentation of system, network, and security environments as needed
  • Work closely with NASA customers and support contractors to ensure that ARTS IT infrastructure is fully compliant with security requirements and ready to support end-user needs
  • Perform troubleshooting and resolution, user support, planning and implementation of software and hardware upgrades, regular backups of systems, restoration as required, development and deployment of new capabilities, implementation of NASA IT security policy, and interface to external organizations and laboratories for networking, VPN provision, and data exchange


Required Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in IT systems administration, computer engineering, or other related fields
  • Experience leading a team of enterprise-level systems administrators in a highly dynamic multi-site environment
  • Extensive Linux (Ubuntu, Oracle Linux) systems administration experience
  • Expertise in managing networks to comply with an IT Security Plan including management of isolated network equipment (firewalls, routers, switches, DNS)
  • Experience with IT security benchmark compliance and maintenance
  • Experience in cloud systems administration (preferably AWS)
  • Strong Linux scripting skills
  • Strong system debugging skills
  • Excellent problem solving, communications, and organizational skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of NASAโ€™s IT security requirements or experience managing systems to be compliant with NIST standards
  • Experience with research computing environments
  • Experience administering Windows systems
