How much do at home welding jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 4, 2026, the average hourly pay for at home welding in the United States is $29.79, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $23.32 and $34.13 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by at-home welders, and how can they be managed effectively?

At-home welders often face challenges such as limited access to industrial-grade equipment, workspace safety concerns, and maintaining consistent project quality. To manage these, it's important to invest in reliable personal protective equipment, set up a well-ventilated and organized workspace, and continuously update skills through online courses or local workshops. Additionally, networking with other welders, either online or in community groups, can provide valuable troubleshooting support and opportunities for collaboration.

Do welders make $100 an hour?

Welders can earn $100 an hour in specialized roles such as pipeline welding, underwater welding, or in high-demand industries, often requiring advanced skills, certifications, and experience. However, the average hourly wage for welders typically ranges from $15 to $30, with top earners in certain fields making higher wages. Overall, reaching $100 an hour is possible but not common for most welding jobs.

Is it possible to do welding at home?

At-home welding is possible for individuals with proper training, safety equipment, and a suitable workspace. Beginners should start with small projects and consider taking courses to learn techniques and safety protocols before attempting welding at home. Local regulations and safety standards should also be followed to ensure safe practice.

What can I weld at home to make money?

At home welding jobs include fabricating metal furniture, custom metal art, small-scale repairs, and creating decorative items. Skilled welders can also produce metal parts for local businesses or sell custom projects online, often requiring basic tools, safety equipment, and certification for certain types of welding.

What is at home welding?

At home welding refers to performing welding tasks in a personal or residential setting rather than in a commercial or industrial environment. Home welders typically use portable welding equipment to complete DIY projects, repairs, or creative metalwork in their own garages or workshops. This type of welding can include various techniques such as MIG, TIG, or stick welding, depending on the skill level and equipment available. Safety precautions and local regulations should always be followed to prevent accidents and ensure quality work.

Can welders work from home?

Welders typically cannot work from home because welding requires specialized equipment and a physical workspace, such as a workshop or construction site. However, some related roles like design, planning, or training may be performed remotely if they involve computer work or consulting. Hands-on welding tasks generally need to be done on-site for safety and practicality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an At Home Welder, and why are they important?

To thrive as an At Home Welder, you need proficiency in welding techniques (such as MIG, TIG, or stick welding), a solid understanding of safety practices, and ideally some formal training or certification in welding. Familiarity with welding machines, protective equipment, and tools like grinders and cutting torches is important, and certification from organizations like the American Welding Society (AWS) can enhance credibility. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and self-motivation are valuable soft skills for producing high-quality work and managing projects independently. These skills ensure safety, quality craftsmanship, and effective project completion in a self-directed home workshop environment.

What is the difference between At Home Welding vs Mobile Welding?

AspectAt Home WeldingMobile Welding
Work EnvironmentPerforms welding tasks at a fixed location, often a home workshop or dedicated facility.Travels to various job sites, including construction sites, factories, or clients' locations.
CredentialsRequires welding certifications, such as AWS or ASME, but typically no special licensing for travel.Similar certifications needed; may require additional licensing for on-site work.
Employer & Industry UsageOften self-employed or small workshops serving local clients.Employed by companies or contractors providing on-site welding services.

At Home Welding involves performing welding tasks at a fixed location, ideal for small-scale projects or repairs. Mobile Welding, on the other hand, requires traveling to various job sites, offering greater flexibility and access to larger projects. Both roles require similar certifications, but the work environment and client interaction differ significantly.
