Job description

Data Scientist - Senior

TULK is a leading boutique consulting firm providing technology and management consulting services to the U.S. Federal Government. Our expert team supports Defense, Intelligence Community, and National Security customers by helping them acquire, manage, analyze, and improve mission-focused technology, data, and business capabilities.

We are seeking a Data Scientist - Senior to lead advanced data analytics, analytic model development, data visualization, risk scoring, anomaly detection, and mission-focused decision support. This role is ideal for a cleared senior data professional who can work independently with stakeholders, translate complex data into actionable insights, and provide technical guidance to teams and leadership.

About the Role

The Data Scientist - Senior will serve as a senior technical contributor and subject matter expert for data analysis, model development, visualization, metrics, and business process improvement. The role requires strong technical capability, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to brief complex findings to leadership. The position may support analytic models, dashboards, risk scoring tools, anomaly detection, data quality analysis, system performance metrics, and enterprise-level reporting.

Your Duties

  • Lead the development, integration, maintenance, and sustainment of advanced analytic models, visualizations, dashboards, and data analysis tools.
  • Apply data science principles to identify patterns, trends, anomalies, risks, and performance issues across complex data sets.
  • Support risk scoring, anomaly detection, forecasting, performance monitoring, and other advanced analytics implementations.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders, project requestors, subject matter experts, and program managers to define business needs, clarify analytical questions, and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Transform complex quantitative and qualitative data into clear dashboards, reports, visualizations, briefings, and executive-level recommendations.
  • Analyze business processes, operational data, system performance, and organizational metrics to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Oversee the capture, maintenance, validation, and analysis of statistics, timelines, system errors, failures, data transfers, and other key performance indicators.
  • Provide technical and analytical guidance to team members on data analysis, visualization, model development, and data quality practices.
  • Develop and maintain repeatable data workflows, scripts, reports, dashboards, and documentation to support recurring analysis and reporting.
  • Support policy, process, and business operations activities by providing data analysis, technical editing, reporting, and leadership-ready decision materials.
  • Communicate analytical findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leaders and mission stakeholders.
  • Work independently in a dynamic mission environment while managing competing priorities and short timelines.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Top Secret / SCI security clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience developing, integrating, maintaining, or leading analytic models, data analytics, dashboards, visualizations, or decision-support tools.
  • Expert-level knowledge of data analytics and data science principles, with demonstrated ability to apply them to complex mission, business, operational, or security problems.
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex data into strategic recommendations, executive-level reports, dashboards, and briefing materials.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders at multiple levels to define requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Experience leading process improvement, performance analysis, business operations, or policy support initiatives using data-driven methods.
  • Experience developing or supporting risk scoring models, anomaly detection methods, forecasting, predictive analytics, or similar advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Experience creating and editing visual content such as charts, graphs, dashboards, and data visualizations for leadership audiences.
  • Demonstrated coding or scripting experience using tools such as Python, Java, SQL, R, or similar languages to support data manipulation, analysis, automation, model development, or visualization.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools such as Tableau, SharePoint, Redmine, databases, spreadsheets, or other systems to manipulate data and build visualizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience providing technical guidance and briefing analytical findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and PowerPoint.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, GEOINT, or national security missions.
  • Experience in a leadership, mentorship, or senior technical advisory role within a data analytics, business intelligence, data science, or mission analytics team.
  • Experience with geospatial data, GEOINT mission applications, or geospatial analysis tools such as ArcGIS, ArcView, RemoteView, ERDAS Imagine, or similar tools.
  • Experience with data quality analysis, data cleansing, data transformation, data integration, and data governance across multiple sources.
  • Experience with Tableau, Python, SQL, R, GIS tools, SharePoint, or other business intelligence and data visualization platforms.
  • Experience supporting insider threat, risk scoring, anomaly detection, performance monitoring, or other security-focused analytics programs.
  • Experience developing executive-level decision briefs, technical reports, dashboard packages, strategic recommendations, or recurring performance reports.
  • Familiarity with policy development, process improvement, business operations, organizational performance, or enterprise reporting in government environments.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in support of Federal, Defense, Intelligence Community, and national security missions.
  • Work may be performed in classified environments and requires compliance with applicable security, information handling, and customer site requirements.
  • Normal work hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours, unless otherwise required by mission needs.
