Position Summary:

College of Western Idaho is currently seeking an instructor to teach Diesel Technology courses in the areas of Heavy-Duty Diesel vehicles. The instructor is responsible for developing curriculum, instructing assigned courses consistent with syllabi, evaluating student learning, and fostering student success. The instructor must be willing to work extra hours to support program, college and community events.


Prior teaching experience and shop management are a plus, but we do offer ongoing in-house teacher training. Candidates should possess solid communication skills and the ability to provide instruction in heavy truck theory operation, troubleshooting and repair. Class A CDL, hydraulics, welding, forklift and industrial equipment experience are a plus.

Responsibilities:

Deliver Exceptional Hands-On Instruction

  • Plan and teach engaging classroom and laboratory instruction using effective teaching methods, educational technology, and real-world industry applications.
  • Evaluate student learning, provide meaningful feedback, and create an environment that supports student success and skill development.

Prepare Career-Ready Diesel Technicians

  • Teach heavy-duty diesel theory, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repair, and safe shop practices aligned with current industry standards.
  • Integrate modern technologies and best practices that prepare students for employment in the diesel industry.

Support Program Excellence and Industry Partnerships

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and advisory committee members to strengthen the Diesel Technology program.
  • Assist with maintaining ASE program accreditation, participate in recruitment and outreach activities, and contribute to program growth and continuous improvement.

Maintain Professional and Technical Expertise

  • Stay current with evolving diesel technologies through ongoing professional development and industry engagement.
  • Complete required faculty training, maintain or obtain required certifications, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and instructional excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma, associate's degree in Diesel Technology preferred.
Five years of full-time, recent work experience in a related field.
At least one year of hydraulic experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Ability to obtain an ASE Master Certification in Medium/Heavy Trucks within the first year of employment.
ASE Master certification in Medium Heavy-Duty Vehicles preferred
Idaho Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred
