Inspire the Next Generation of Technicians as an Instructor at CWI!

The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a dedicated Instructor to deliver highquality instruction that prepares students for successful careers in diesel and heavy equipment technology. This role combines classroom lecture, handson lab supervision, student engagement, and curriculum development-all focused on student success, skill mastery, and workforce readiness.

Instructors at CWI play a vital role in supporting students across the entire learning lifecycle through inclusive, studentcentered teaching, strong industry connections, and continuous professional growth.

Teaching & Instructional Excellence:
  • Provide lecture instruction Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and supervise evening lab activities from 6:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
  • Deliver inclusive, studentcentered instruction that meets the needs of CWI's diverse community college student population
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills to maintain engagement, safety, and productive learning environments
  • Prepare, present, and assess instructional materials aligned with course and program outcomes
  • Develop, revise, and manage course content and assessments using Canvas
Curriculum, Technical Expertise & Assessment:
  • Demonstrate and teach expertise in:
    • Heavy equipment hydraulics
    • Electrical systems
    • Powertrain systems
    • Diesel emissions and aftertreatment
    • HVAC systems
  • Continuously evaluate and improve curriculum, delivery methods, and assessment practices
  • Participate in departmentlevel curriculum and program development initiatives
Student Support & Institutional Engagement:
  • Assist with student advising and support student progress and persistence
  • Participate in committee assignments and institutional activities
  • Contribute to departmental planning, assessment, and program improvement efforts
  • Engage with community and industry partners to support workforcealigned instruction
Professional Development & Growth:
  • Pursue professional development opportunities aligned with instructional excellence and program needs
  • Collaborate with supervisors to align professional expertise and interests with departmental goals
  • Maintain current industry knowledge to support relevant, applied instruction
Work Environment & Flexibility:
  • Fulltime faculty may be assigned to teach at any CWI campus as needed
  • Evening instruction and lab supervision are required for this position
What We're Looking For:
  • High school diploma required; Associate's degree in Diesel Technology preferred
  • Five (5) years of recent, fulltime work experience in a related technical field
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to develop curriculum, assessments, and instructional materials
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and manage students effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current or prior CDL license
  • Teaching or training experience in a technical or applied learning environment
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform this role, with reasonable accommodations available.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, handle tools and equipment, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate verbally
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and perform sensory tasks such as tasting or smelling
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Additional Instructions For Applicants: 

Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
