Asynchronous Project Manager information

What is an asynchronous project manager?

An Asynchronous Project Manager is a professional who leads and coordinates projects where team members collaborate and communicate without needing to work at the same time. This approach is often used in distributed or remote teams across different time zones. The Asynchronous Project Manager leverages tools like project management platforms, shared documents, and messaging apps to ensure tasks are tracked, deadlines are met, and team members stay informed. Their role focuses on clear documentation, effective communication, and maintaining project momentum without relying on real-time meetings.

How does an asynchronous project manager effectively coordinate teams across different time zones and schedules?

As an Asynchronous Project Manager, you'll leverage digital tools and clear documentation to ensure all team members stay aligned despite working at different times. This involves setting clear expectations for deliverables, using project management platforms for updates, and fostering a culture of thorough communication. Regularly updating shared resources and providing detailed feedback help prevent misunderstandings and keep projects on track. The role demands strong organizational skills and the ability to anticipate potential bottlenecks that arise without real-time interaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an asynchronous project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Asynchronous Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, experience in remote or distributed team environments, and often a relevant certification such as PMP or Agile. Familiarity with asynchronous communication tools like Slack, Trello, Asana, and cloud-based documentation platforms is typically required. Exceptional self-motivation, time management, and clear written communication help individuals excel in coordinating teams across different time zones. These competencies ensure projects stay on track, collaboration remains effective, and team productivity is maximized without real-time meetings.

What is the difference between Asynchronous Project Manager vs Scrum Master?

Industry UsageVarious industries including tech, marketing, and consultingPrimarily software development and tech

While both roles support project delivery, an Asynchronous Project Manager oversees projects with flexible, remote communication, focusing on asynchronous updates and coordination. A Scrum Master facilitates Agile Scrum processes, ensuring team adherence to Scrum practices. The roles overlap in managing projects and teams but differ in methodology and communication style.

Is it possible to work remotely as an asynchronous project manager?

Asynchronous project managers can often work remotely since their role primarily involves coordinating tasks, communicating through digital tools, and managing projects without real-time interactions. Successful remote work in this role typically requires strong communication skills, familiarity with project management software, and self-discipline. Many organizations now offer remote or hybrid arrangements for asynchronous project management positions.

Job description

About Us

Applecart is the leading technology company that C-suites rely on to reach business-critical decision makers. The most important decisions are made by the hardest people to reach and influence. Historically, C-suite leaders have lacked the tools to reach the stakeholders who matter most to their business. The C-suites of hundreds of Fortune 500 companies, major agencies, trade associations, nonprofits, and governments use Applecart to put their best content in front of business-critical decision makers and those they trust —  from policymakers and investors to CEOs, key employees, members of the media and more. Decision makers are informed by what they read, learn from advisors, hear from colleagues, and discuss with family and friends. To break through to them, you must reach them through the only channel that really moves them: those they know and trust. Applecart's platform uses publicly available data to map billions of social relationships between nearly every American adult and enable clients to deliver content directly to decision makers and those who matter most to them.

We are hiring a Principal Product Manager, Measurement in our New York office.

About the Role:

Our Decision Maker Targeting products are a critical part of our clients' strategic execution. Applecart is used as an amplification layer for their ongoing communications with a broad cross-section of key stakeholders. Quantifying the impact of using Applecart audiences across all of these communication strategies is essential to our clients' success.

In this critical role, you will drive the product vision and execution of our measurement and insights products as we grow our offering and client base. The ideal candidate would combine enterprise product expertise with a deep technical understanding of media measurement and/or research methods.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and build the next generation of our Insights & Optimization offerings in collaboration with a cross-functional team of engineers, data scientists, product managers, and sales and client service leads.
  • Own the product strategy, business planning, roadmap and requirements definition for your own product offering.
  • Evangelize product solutions with internal teams, clients and industry partners.
  • Collect client feedback via both direct and indirect channels and translate them into product requirements where applicable.
  • Collaborate with key clients on implementation strategy and adoption of new features.
  • Manage high visibility product launches and define and track KPIs to measure success and identify ongoing improvements.

Experiences and Capabilities You Bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in a product management role.
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing, advertising technology, market research, or a similar industry with specific expertise in media effectiveness measurement.
  • Personally worked on projects to roll out measurement technology solutions to large enterprises and/or their agencies including both the end client reporting and underlying methodology.
  • Experience working closely and effectively with a geographically distributed team and managing asynchronous communication across distant time zones.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly dynamic environment where priorities can shift outside of planning periods.
  • Have an exceptional technical background, enjoy in-depth discussions with engineers, and understand the implications and tradeoffs of design decisions.
  • Passionate about problem solving, learning, and figuring out the nuts and bolts of "how things work."
  • Excellent collaboration and project management skills to manage many moving parts across internal teams and partners.
  • Ability to tell stories with data - well-versed in analytics, data visualization, and communicating simple, actionable insights to people across all roles and levels.   Experience communicating business impact to C-suite audiences is a plus.
  • BA/BS degree with engineering or technical major preferred, but not required.

This is a hybrid role. Work from home on Monday and Friday and in Applecart's New York City office Tuesday through Thursday.

Compensation:

Our compensation package consists of three components: (i) a base salary, (ii) annual cash bonus, and (iii) generous equity compensation.

The base salary range for this role is between $210,000 to $250,000, based on the candidate's experience and skills relative to the requirements listed above. The salary range provided is exclusive of discretionary annual cash bonus and equity compensation. The salary range provided for this role is specific to candidates located in the New York City area.
