Job description

Department: Community & Foundation
Reports to: Director, Astros Youth Academy & Youth Initiatives
Classification: Part-time/Non-exempt/Seasonal
Summary/Objective:
Assist in instruction while learning the coaching styles, techniques and coordination of MLB style of baseball/softball instruction.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Assist lead instructors in all baseball and softball programs at the Academy to teach the basic baseball fundamentals.
  • Assist in coaching teams as needed.
  • Assist instruction at Academy camps and clinics as assigned.
  • Assist at all events when assigned at Minute Maid Park including batting practices and client engagement events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience & Skills:
  • Experience playing high school and/or college baseball or softball
  • Current high school/college student or recent graduate
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude
  • Organized and dependable
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions

Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is moderate, however, during events, the noise level may be loud. The employee will be expected to work both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather patterns (extreme heat or cold, rain, etc.).
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Ability to regularly work on your feet for long hours. The Position requires ability to walk long distances and stand up 4 to 5 hours without a break. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.
