Job description

The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day.
The Product Manager, Growth & Lifecycle is a key role within the Consumer Product & Technology organization, responsible for executing AP News' growth product strategy and driving measurable improvements in conversion, engagement, and retention.
This role sits within the Data Products team and focuses on optimizing how users progress through the funnel, from anonymous visitors to engaged users to registered users to donors and recurring supporters. It owns product definition, prioritization, and performance across lifecycle experiences, ensuring that AP's growth initiatives are data-driven, user-centric, and aligned to business outcomes.
The Product Manager will work closely with peers in Product as well as Engineering, Design, Data & Analytics, Audience Development, Editorial, and Revenue teams to ship high-impact features and experiments that improve user progression and lifecycle outcomes.
What You'll Do:
Own the day-to-day execution of growth and lifecycle product initiatives, continuously optimizing conversion flows and user journeys across the funnel. You will lead efforts across registration and identity capture, donation experiences and checkout optimization, acquisition and onboarding flows, and lifecycle progression and retention. This includes improving key user experiences such as registration and login flows, donation prompts and landing pages, newsletter signup and email onboarding journeys, and lifecycle messaging across touchpoints. You will drive experimentation and performance optimization across growth surfaces, leveraging A/B testing and data insights, and partner closely with other product owners to support personalization and targeting strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Own and execute the product roadmap for growth and lifecycle initiatives.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering and Design to deliver high-quality user experiences across conversion flows.
  • Define and run experiments to improve conversion rates, engagement, and retention.
  • Analyze performance data and translate insights into product improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Data & Insights team to define KPIs and measurement frameworks.
  • Work closely with Audience Development and Revenue teams to align product initiatives with business goals.
  • Support and operationalize personalization and lifecycle campaigns, including building audience segments, defining targeting logic, and managing lifecycle journeys within platforms like BlueConic.
  • Ensure a consistent and high-quality user experience across lifecycle touchpoints.

Who you are:
  • 4-7+ years of experience in product management, preferably in growth, lifecycle, or consumer product roles.
  • Experience working on conversion funnels, user journeys, or lifecycle products.
  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort reading or writing SQL against event-level data (GA4 / BigQuery or similar) to answer funnel and cohort questions directly.
  • Experience with experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, optimization).
  • Familiarity with growth and lifecycle tooling such as Sailthru (ESP), BlueConic (CDP/personalization), Zephr (regwall), or similar platforms.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, design, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree equivalent experience.

What will set you apart:
  • Experience with membership, subscription, or donor product, particularly recurring billing UX or donor funnel optimization.

Work Location:
This position follows a hybrid work model based in AP's New York headquarters. AP employees are onsite three days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Why join us:
  • A mission-driven, inclusive environment focused on both individual and collective success.
  • Opportunities for professional development to help you reach your career goals.
  • Access to tools, mentorship, and resources tailored to elevate your proficiency and contributions.

Salary & Benefits:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $135,000-$145,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan and an employer-sponsored health insurance plan, as outlined in the official plan documents. Additionally, they are eligible for paid time off and holidays per AP policy.
The Associated Press offers comprehensive benefits which include:
  • Competitive medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Retirement benefits
  • Company paid life insurance
  • Paid vacation and sick days
  • Paid parental leave for any new parent
  • Mental health resources
