How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a member of the Design team, you will support engineering and manufacturing by creating and maintaining detailed 2D/3D models, drawings, and documentation with fans, for engineered air movement equipment (fans, blowers, and related components). This role is onsite and works closely with engineering, production, and applications teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
Design and Development:
  • Design and draft 2D and 3D drawings
  • Produce manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and bill of materials (BOMs)
  • Support product design changes, custom orders, and engineering updates
  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards, tolerances, and specifications
  • Review engineering specifications and drawings to determine critical dimensions and orientations for design
  • Create detailed layout drawings and review design alternatives in collaboration with manufacturing
  • Provides input into selection and usage of design tools

Customer Order Processing
  • Assist with customer needs and handle opportunities with a sense of urgency
  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing and sales departments
  • Analyze product or equipment specifications as well as performance requirements to determine if designs can be produced by manufacturing facilities
  • Create and review part numbers and bill of materials

Continuous Improvement
  • Provide suggestions on product improvements through redesign ideas or feedback
  • Share best practices and techniques with peers to enhance the skills of others
  • Participate in other projects as assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
  • 5+ years CAD experience in air pollution control, HVAC, or similar industry
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
  • Manufacturing knowledge (fabrication, welding, machining)

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience a plus
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Demonstrated experience with custom or engineered-to-order products
  • Exposure to performance testing or product validation processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong knowledge and ability to handle multiple products
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Experience leading projects or mentoring junior staff

Education & Certifications
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design, CAD/Drafting Technology, or Engineering Technology
