Purpose
Provides advanced electrical design and drafting support for engineering projects by producing high-quality construction documents and technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) tools. Works independently with limited supervision and collaborates closely with engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop accurate, compliant, and constructible electrical designs that support project goals, schedules, and budgets.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
  • Perform work under limited supervision, receiving general direction on complex assignments and overall objectives.
  • Independently apply sound design techniques, standards, and principles in the execution of work.
  • Review drawings and design deliverables produced by other designers or junior staff to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to established standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to less experienced designers as needed.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and designers to support the development and refinement of electrical designs.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary design team to coordinate electrical designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies to support permitting, approvals, and design coordination.
  • Contribute to project planning efforts, including schedule development and budget considerations.

Do the Work
  • Produce detailed electrical drawings and models using CAD software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Prepare, review, and revise drawings to clearly communicate engineering concepts and design intent.
  • Develop and document concepts, sketches, layouts, models, submittals, instructions, and complete production drawing packages.
  • Create and maintain 3D engineering drawings and designs in compliance with applicable specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Perform design calculations and prepare material and equipment specifications.
  • Provide sketches, redlines, and technical notes for incorporation into construction documents.
  • Perform moderate to complex design tasks and prepare portions of project plans and technical documentation.
  • Independently and collaboratively support planning, design, and research activities on conventional engineering projects.
  • Evaluate, analyze, interpret, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving incomplete, conflicting, or unclear design inputs.
  • Prepare permit applications and construction documents.
  • Perform and support QA/QC reviews of drawings, construction documents, and technical specifications.
  • Independently resolve design and drafting issues by selecting and interpreting information from applicable engineering resources.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.
  • Associate's degree in computer aided drafting/design and electrical or equivalent degree highly preferred.
  • Eight or more (8+) years of relevant industry-related experience and proficiency in detail design work within land development, construction, or utilities.
  • Experience reading construction plans.
  • Familiarity with practices and procedures pertaining to technical matters to include construction, manufacturing, substation design, and electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity preferred.
  • Ability to process engineering changes to existing drawings.
  • Proficient in design and drafting procedures.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar engineering design software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
