This role is integral to the Strategic segment team, managing large enterprise organizations across various key industries such as Public Sector, Financial Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail, and Technology.
The Technical Account Management (TAM) team is a global group of Okta product experts dedicated to enabling existing customers to succeed. As a Technical Account Manager, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor and advocate for some of our largest customers, focusing on strategic account alignment, hands-on prototyping, and broad deployment strategies to drive lasting success.
Key Identity Solutions & Technologies You Will Support
The Okta Platform secures identities across every part of the lifecycle. You will work across both core workforce solutions and developer-focused identity integrations:
  • Identity & Access Management (IAM): Single Sign-On (SSO), Adaptive MFA, Device Access, API Access Management, Secure Partner Access, Access Gateway, and Universal Directory.
  • Identity Governance & Administration (IGA): Lifecycle Management and Identity Governance (e.g., automated provisioning and zero standing privileges).
  • Privileged Access Management (PAM): Privileged Access controls.
  • Identity Threat Detection & Response (ITDR): Identity Security Posture Management and Identity Threat Protection (Syslog monitoring and signal integrations).
  • Customer Identity (CIAM) & Developer Tools: Modern authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC), Okta REST APIs, the Okta Sign-In Widget, and Auth JS SDKs for custom application authentication.
What You'll Be Doing
Strategic Customer Partnership & Influence
  • Build deep, long-lasting relationships with customers as their go-to technical advisor and primary point of contact.
  • Masterfully apply technical expertise to solve complex problems, design sophisticated solutions, and influence customer identity strategies.
  • Collaborate with customers to design identity strategies aligned with their business objectives and expanded security posture.
Prototyping, Technical Execution & Advocacy
  • Hands-on Prototyping & Demos: Build lightweight Proofs of Concept (PoCs), configure test environments (e.g., Salesforce developer tenants), and conduct live technical walkthroughs (such as custom login flows, SAML/OIDC integrations, and Adaptive MFA mobile policies).
  • API Testing & Integrations: Utilize tools like Postman to test, validate, and demonstrate Okta REST APIs (executing CRUD operations for user and group management).
  • Complex Problem Resolution: Dissect multi-faceted technical issues, proactively identify risks, and orchestrate effective solutions or escalations collaboratively with Customer Success and Engineering.
  • Advocate for customer needs within cross-functional Okta teams while supporting policies in the best interest of the company.
Thought Leadership & Team Enablement
  • Provide best practices, workshops, and technical enablement for customer architects and technical leads.
  • Generate repeatable technical assets, code snippets, and strategy guides for the global TAM team.
  • Mentor peers, upskilling team capability with a focus on deep technical development.
What You'll Bring to the Role
  • Experience: 6+ years of related professional experience (or 6+ years with a Master's degree), including 3+ years as a Technical Account Manager, Technical Consultant, Solution Architect, or Product Manager.
  • Domain Knowledge: 3+ years in identity and access management (SSO, MFA, lifecycle management, or security best practices).
  • Education & Certifications: BA/BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Okta Certified, CISSP, or equivalent certifications preferred.
Technical Mastery
  • Identity Protocols: Deep, practical understanding of modern identity federation and access control protocols, specifically OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML 2.0, and WS-Federation.
  • API Prototyping Tools: Hands-on experience working with REST APIs and API development platforms like Postman to test endpoints and demonstrate programmatic workflows.
  • Development & Scripting Basics: Ability to read, modify, or build simple front-end or back-end applications (e.g., HTML/JS, Node.js, Python) to demonstrate authentication routing (public vs. protected routes) and group-based access control using the Okta Sign-In Widget or Okta Auth JS.
  • SaaS & Provisioning Integrations: Experience integrating SaaS platforms (Salesforce, Workday, Box, Office 365) using SAML SSO, SCIM, and automated lifecycle management (provisioning/deprovisioning).
  • Security & Monitoring: Familiarity with Adaptive MFA policies, behavioral analysis, and syslog monitoring for security insights (SIEM integrations).
Communication & Leadership
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical topics into actionable insights for both developer teams and CxO-level executives.
  • Comfortable performing live technical demonstrations, troubleshooting sessions, and whiteboarding architecture.
  • Skilled in setting expectations, tracking account health metrics, and maintaining clear project boundaries.

Below is the annual On Target Compensation (OTE) range for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York and Washington. Your actual OTE, which is inclusive of base salary and incentive compensation, will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable) and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies.
