The Systems Engineer is responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of hardware, software, and infrastructure systems. The role provides technical support in planning, implementing, and sustaining operations, while supporting innovation through research and development. It ensures compliance with organizational and regulatory standards, maintains key documentation, and communicates technical concepts and project status to stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engineer, integrate, and manage enterprise storage platforms, SAN infrastructure, backup systems, and supporting components in accordance with organizational requirements.
  • Assess and report on data restoration and disaster recovery capabilities; identify gaps and recommend corrective actions to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Administer enterprise backup solutions to ensure data integrity, availability, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Evaluate, design, and implement file sharing solutions to meet validated customer and operational requirements.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of storage environments; analyze deficiencies and provide technical recommendations for resolution.
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance and operational checks on storage hardware and associated systems to sustain system reliability.
  • Conduct storage utilization analysis and capacity planning; develop and maintain technical procedures and documentation supporting lifecycle management of storage technologies.
  • Develop, update, and enforce policies, standards, and procedures supporting storage operations; contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Produce technical reports on storage management practices and emerging technologies; recommend system enhancements, configuration changes, and optimization strategies to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Support Storage Array administration, LUN / Volume administration Fiber switch administration Storage File Sharing, Security Implementation, Data Migrations, Pilot Projects / Proof of Concept, Cloud Tier support and administration, other duties as assigned.
  • Provide after-hours troubleshooting and incident response support as needed.
  • Provide the project manager and government customers with weekly reports concerning completed work, planned work, and any issues encountered.
  • Coordinate daily with government and contract POC.
  • Support the completion of daily checklists and appropriately document and report system status.
  • Create, update, and close tickets in the IT Service Management (ITSM) tool, updating tickets daily and ensuring that all relevant information is captured in work notes.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Required Experience:
    • Minimum of three (3) years of professional engineering experience supporting the evaluation, design, implementation, and integration of enterprise storage and backup solutions.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience managing enterprise SAN environments, including technologies such as Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE unified fabric, HBA/CNA configurations, storage controllers, LUN provisioning, RAID configurations, and NAS/file sharing systems.
    • Demonstrated experience supporting hierarchical storage management systems and administering enterprise backup and recovery operations utilizing platforms such as Veritas NetBackup.
    • Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience supporting Department of Defense IT systems and environments.
  • Required Certifications:
    • DoD 8570 IAT II Certification
    • Must also have one of the following Computing Environment certifications:
      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
      • GIAC Defensible Security Architecture
      • GIAC Continuous Monitoring Certification
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
      • NetApp Certified Data Administrator (ONTAP)
      • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator
      • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Architect
      • NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer- SAN Specialist (ONTAP)

    • Must be able to work onsite full-time at the client's location in Dayton, OH.

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Must be able to work in a network closet and sit at computer desk.
  • Must be able to lift between 35-40lbs.
