Job description

Position Summary

Scientific Games is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Operations Engineer to provide ongoing support and maintenance for 24x7 real‑time transaction processing platforms. The engineer will ensure stability, performance, and reliability of the platform through troubleshooting, system monitoring, and process optimization.

Primary Job Functions
  • Provide Tier1 and Tier2 production support for real‑time transaction processing platforms, including troubleshooting, managing system health, and coordinating with Tier3, development, and QA teams.
  • Support onsite during a 24x7 on‑call rotation for Scientific Games lottery and interactive production systems.
  • Implement new systems, including builds, performance analysis, and integration testing, and provide onsite support during system implementations and overhauls.
  • Continuously monitor system performance, database health, server utilization, and transaction flow to maintain optimal uptime.
  • Install, configure, and patch Windows and Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, RedHat) and manage lifecycles.
  • Manage SSL certificates and configure security settings.
  • Automate routine tasks using Bash scripting, Ansible, and Python to improve efficiency.
  • Diagnose and resolve system performance, database optimization, transaction failures, and server anomalies, and implement preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, UAT testers, QA, and developers to resolve platform issues and implement enhancements.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, platform configurations, and automation processes, and prepare regular performance, incident, and resolution reports.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks—including query optimization and backups—and troubleshoot PostgreSQL issues.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement tuning strategies to support growth.
  • Manage user access and identity tasks related to SAML‑based SSO, including onboarding, revocation, and synchronization.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Bash scripting, Ansible, and Python for automation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of Ubuntu Linux system administration and configuration.
  • Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL for querying, optimization, and issue resolution.
  • Experience with infrastructure virtualization (VMware) and Storage Area Networks.
  • Minimum 2years of experience in a Tier2 or similar technical support role.
  • Analytical problem‑solving skills and ability to design innovative solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and user interaction.
  • Associate degree in a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with private cloud, AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Knowledge of containerization tools such as Podman or Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, New Relic) and version control (Git).
  • Windows Server (2022) administration experience.
  • Experience with database systems including Postgres, SQL Server, MySQL, and/or Oracle.
  • Relevant certifications such as LPIC or PostgreSQL certifications are advantageous.
Compensation

Base salary of $110,000 plus a 5% annual bonus.
