Programmer / Core Systems Technician

Jefferson Parish Employees Federal Credit Union is seeking a skilled Symitar Programmer / Core Systems Technician to support and enhance our Jack Henry Symitar core processing environment and related business applications. This mid-level role focuses on PowerOn development, reporting, integrations, system administration, and operational support. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a commitment to improving efficiency, compliance, and member service through reliable and innovative technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting & Data Management

  • Develop and maintain Symitar reports using PowerOn, RepGen, and SQL-based tools
  • Support data extracts, audits, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy across systems

Symitar Core System Support

  • Maintain and support the Jack Henry Symitar core processing system
  • Perform system configuration, parameter maintenance, and operational setup
  • Monitor system performance and resolve production issues in a timely manner
  • Support daily, monthly, and year-end processing tasks

Programming & PowerOn Development

  • Develop, modify, and maintain PowerOn programs and scripts
  • Create and maintain custom reports, batch jobs, and automation processes
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing PowerOn code for performance and accuracy
  • Assist with Symitar upgrades, releases, and testing efforts

Integrations & Third-Party Support

  • Assist with file transfers, job scheduling, and troubleshooting data exchange issues
  • Work with vendors and internal teams to implement enhancements or new services
  • Build and maintain connections between Symitar and third-party platforms (using SymXchange, Symform, web services)

Security, Compliance & Documentation

  • Follow security best practices and internal controls related to core systems
  • Assist with audits, exams, and documentation requests
  • Maintain technical documentation, procedures, and change logs

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with IT staff, operations, lending, and accounting teams
  • Provide technical guidance and problem resolution for system-related issues
  • Participate in on-call rotation or after-hours support as required
  • Effectively communicate technical and non-technical information to diverse audiences
  • Provide first-line (and above) technical support to employees, members, and vendors by resolving system-related issues, answering technical questions, and documenting support activities through ticketing systems

Education & Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with Jack Henry Symitar or Silver Lake
  • Strong experience with PowerOn programming and development
  • Working knowledge of Symitar modules (deposits, loans, accounting, member services)
  • Experience with RepGen, batch processing, and system jobs
  • Understanding of Credit Union or financial institution operations
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Must be a team player and willing to assist where needed
  • Must participate in reciprocal cross training
  • Must work onsite and have reliable transportation to periodically visit local branches
  • Ability to periodically work after hours or weekends to minimize business downtime
  • Must be familiar with industry specifics tools such as image and software deployment, remote management and monitoring, endpoint management, Windows and 3rd party patch management.
  • Experience in Windows 10, Windows 11, PC Hardware Troubleshooting, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook. MS Office 365 Administrator experience required
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical/problem-solving skills
  • Must be organized with the ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with JPEFCU personnel
  • Ability to understand technical documentation and specifications related to computer systems
  • Ability to work varied work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
  • Required to frequently walk, sit, talk and hear
  • Required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Credit Union environment
  • Familiarity with Symitar Quest, SQL, APIs, or scripting
  • Experience supporting Symitar upgrades and conversions
  • Knowledge of financial institution compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
