IDEAL CANDIDATE Our ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Traffic or Civil Engineer with expertise in traffic engineering, transportation planning, and public infrastructure.
They have a strong background managing transportation and capital improvement projects, improving roadway safety and mobility, and collaborating with developers, consultants, and public agencies. They are a confident leader who enjoys mentoring staff, solving complex transportation challenges, and delivering projects that enhance the community's quality of life. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION A bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, mechanical or structural engineering or a related engineering discipline OR, equivalent related work experience;AND At least six (6) years of progressively responsible civil, electrical, mechanical or structural engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: Current, valid certification as a Professional Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Structural Engineer with the California State Licensing Board. A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy. Previous municipality experience related to transportation is desirable DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Senior Engineer, P.E
is the advanced professional level class in the professional engineering class series. Incumbents are responsible for managing assigned land development or capital improvement projects and performing the most complex professional engineering work requiring a substantial level of professional training and experience. Incumbents are also responsible for supervising, assigning, monitoring and overseeing the work of assigned professional, technical and administrative support staff.
Assignments are of a continuing nature, requiring the exercise of independent judgment, initiative and problem-solving. Senior Engineer, P.E. is distinguished from Associate Engineer in that incumbents in the former class are expected to perform the most complex professional engineering work, requiring professional registration and a greater degree of engineering experience
THE TRANSPORTATION DIVISION The Transportation Engineering Division assesses neighborhood and regional traffic concerns and implements corrective measures to enhance vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety. The staff works closely with the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG), the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS), and adjoining agencies to insure consistency and uniformity with regional transportation programs. Our staff operates and maintains 201 traffic signals and 418 centerline miles of roadway signing and striping.

Candidates will respond to a series of standardized questions, and their performance will be assessed using predetermined evaluation criteria to ensure a fair and consistent appraisal process. Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
Eligible List: Once the appraisal is complete, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
