What We Do

The Alternative Strategist will be responsible for helping drive Fidelity's alternative sales and AUM growth in Western Canada (Calgary or Vancouver based) by engaging with financial advisors, working alongside the Fidelity Sales Team. The Alternative Strategist will be responsible for communicating investment philosophies, process, and ongoing product updates to Fidelity's clients & prospects, and DIY (Do-It-Yourself) investors. The role will support all sales regions across Western Canada including Regional VP (RVPs), District VP Sales (DVPs), Business Development Managers (BDMs) and Business Development Associates (BDAs). Beyond sales, the Strategist will also support all major Fidelity stakeholders to provide knowledge and expertise regarding industry trends, competitor intelligence, Fidelity's product offerings, and portfolio construction ideas. The role will also represent Fidelity at industry events, as well as participating in speaking engagements at Fidelity and external events. The Alternative Strategist will be involved in all aspects of product development and ongoing support of Fidelity alternative strategies. This role will report to the Director, ETF and Alternatives Strategy.

How You'll Make an Impact

Establish Fidelity Canada as an industry leader in alternatives investing

  • Build, maintain and communicate with an expert level of knowledge on Fidelity alternative strategies, competitor landscape and general capital markets backdrop.

  • Attend internal and external conferences to both provide and maintain a high degree of knowledge around the evolution of the alternative landscape in Canada and abroad.

  • Engage with dealer gatekeepers and decision makers to support the inclusion of our alternative offerings on their approved and recommended lists.

  • Provide thought leadership and in-depth insights to our sales teams across the country to support them in best talking about our suite of alternative solutions. These will come in the form of monthly updates or one-off in-depth updates throughout the year.

  • Engage with key partners within the sales organization to support educational initiatives for the sales development program (SDP) to ensure our BDR, BDA, and BDM cohorts have the support and resources to foster the growth of their knowledge around alternatives, thus ensuring a strong and equipped sales force for years ahead. Educate and promote the Alternatives investment philosophy, process, performance, and competitive strengths

Drive net sales thus enhancing relative market share within the alternative category

  • Be an advisor to our advisor partners, acting in a subject matter expert capacity on a niche, sophisticated and rapidly growing area of our business.

  • Engage directly with financial advisors in Western Canada and support existing wholesaler efforts to expand knowledge and use of appropriate Fidelity's alternative solutions.

  • Develop relationships and gain the trust of the Fidelity sales teams to become a sought-after resource to be leveraged in the sales process in both offensive and defensive capacities.

  • Help DVPs/BDMs develop and manage Alternative business plans for their territory to include segmented business approach by client type, and opportunity

  • Provide meaningful engagement with existing core and prospective advisor clients to enhance existing partnerships and foster new growth across the country.

  • Identify opportunities to develop and execute sales strategies that will drive net sales, maximize market penetration, increase customer loyalty, and thus strengthen relative market share in the alternative space.

  • Partner with Sales to educate and provide a constantly evolving sales pitch for each of our alternative offerings that are relevant and timely in the current market backdrop.

  • Ability to clearly articulate our competitive advantage and how we provide a differentiated approach across our suite of alternative solutions to close new business thus driving net sales.

  • Work closely with our portfolio managers maintaining an open line of communication to allow the Strategist to serve as an extension of the PM to share timely thoughts and ideas.

  • Participate in industry events and conferences to educate DIY investors about Alternative investing and Fidelity solutions.

Support Sales, Marketing & Corporate Affairs with timely & relevant information

  • Provide expert insights into the development of external investment communication material ensuring the alternative strategies' positionings are correct, compelling and understood relative to investment objectives and competitor products.

  • Assist in the development and analysis of thought leadership pieces for the institutional and advisor channels.

  • Provide insight and counsel for investment solution improvement and product development initiatives.

  • Develop strong relationships with alternative portfolio managers and support them when it comes to clients/prospects presentations

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience in a wholesale investment services environment with a focus on alternatives and a proven track record of success

  • Completion of University degree or equivalent work experience

  • Additional designations that are an asset: CAIA, CFA, CIM, MBA

  • Ability to successfully articulate detailed mechanics of investment philosophy and process

  • Successful track record of investment presentation creation and delivery to broad spectrum of constituencies

  • Ability to build strong relationships and work in a highly collaborative environment, with a frequent focus on gaining consensus across a broad spectrum of investment management, distribution, product management and senior management constituents

  • Ability to travel frequently if required, with the potential for 1-2 days per week
