Job description

In keeping with the mission and values of Big Thunder Marine, and the pledge to maintain our presence as the premier watercraft dealer and dock builder at the Lake of the Ozarks, Sales Associates serve as the primary resource for our clients. This role requires a highly skilled and motivated Marine Construction Sales Engineer to boost the growth of the dock and marine structure business. The position requires a combination of sales skills, knowledge of dock construction and materials, and the ability to apply engineering principles to design and propose marine solutions. The candidate will manage the complete sales cycle, from lead generation and client consultations to design, proposal creation, and project closing. This is a crucial role for a technically skilled individual with an interest in waterfront development and the ability to turn client ideas into engineered solutions.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Sales & Client Relationship Management

  • Develop relationships with current and potential clients, including waterfront property owners, marinas, contractors, and developers.
  • Actively sell the company's marine construction products and services, such as dock construction, repairs, and enhancements.
  • Lead the entire sales cycle, including lead generation, proposal development, negotiation, and closing deals to meet or exceed sales goals.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing client concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Use CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) for lead management, tracking sales activities, and maintaining client records.

Engineering Design & Project Development

  • Conduct on-site consultations and surveys to evaluate conditions, gather client requirements, and assess project feasibility.
  • Apply engineering principles and design tools to create dock layouts and structures, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Work with engineers and draftsmen to refine designs, ensure structural integrity, and address technical specifications.
  • Use CAD software to create blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications for marine construction projects.
  • Prepare and present detailed proposals, including technical specifications, construction methods, material breakdowns, and accurate cost estimates to clients, architects, and engineers.
  • Assist clients in navigating the permitting process, ensuring the design and construction meet all local, state, and federal regulations.

Technical Expertise & Industry Knowledge

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of dock construction methods, materials (wood, steel, concrete, composites), and their suitability for various marine environments.
  • Stay current with advancements in marine construction materials, technologies, and environmental regulations to provide clients with cutting-edge solutions.
  • Demonstrate expertise in relevant structural engineering principles, fluid dynamics, and materials science as they apply to marine structures.
  • Possess a strong understanding of relevant regulatory requirements and standards, including those from organizations like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or state environmental agencies.

Project Coordination & Operations

  • Coordinate with construction teams and subcontractors to ensure project execution and timelines.
  • Work with internal teams and suppliers to select and ensure the timely delivery of materials for projects.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with engineering and project management teams.
  • Contribute to developing best practices and standardizing processes within the marine construction division.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Proven experience (e.g., 5+ years preferred) in technical sales or sales engineering roles within the marine construction or related industry.
  • Computer Skills: Must be proficient with essential PC and laptop functions, online search engines, Microsoft Office suite, and Google docs. Experience with Salesforce CRM is valued. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other relevant engineering design and simulation tools.
  • Certifications & Licenses: Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Class E driver's license and MO boater's license

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical office environment with moderate noise level when working indoors. Outdoor and marine environment may contain uneven and slippery surfaces. Noise level may increase substantially upon interaction with watercraft.
