Role Overview

Web software engineers at Cboe are tasked with designing and implementing applications, developing user interfaces and components that are critical to maintaining operational and customer readiness. This requires careful attention to detail, knowledge of algorithms and data structures, and ability to design testable and scalable systems. Cboe web services are running 24x7, and web engineers are responsible for ensuring uptime and resilience for applications that support all Cboe markets. We use industry-leading technologies like Python, Django, React, Next.js and Tailwind CSS to build websites that handle millions of requests per day, providing high-quality market data and real-time access to Cboe exchanges for our customers and the investing public. We operate at the tip of the spear, maintaining the primary interface for command and control of Cboe markets worldwide. We are aggressive, yet agile. We care about user experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, test, extend, and maintain functionality for our web applications and systems.
  • Good Python, JavaScript (React, NextJS), HTML/CSS, and Linux knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of UX and the Cboe Design Systems (Chroma and Contour).
  • Basic understanding of SQL and familiarity with relational databases.
  • Implement automated unit tests and test changes to systems and platform functionality prior to deployment.
  • Contribute to remediation efforts for incidents arising from own changes.
  • Provide input into team sprint planning and participate in periodic team meetings.
  • Participate in peer code reviews.
  • Capable of giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Participate in requirements gathering and analysis.
  • Contribute to documentation, technical specifications, and requirements for our data and applications.
  • Demonstrate interest in system and business knowledge and take steps to improve understanding of Cboe's markets and technology.
  • Assertive and detail oriented, with excellent communication skills.
  • Prioritize and manage time effectively across projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Regular communication with technical colleagues and be a positive representation of software engineering internally and externally.

Job Requirements
  • BS in Computer Science or demonstrable equivalent knowledge
  • 0-2 years of experience developing websites or web applications; internship, academic, or personal project experience is welcomed
  • Exposure to MVC web frameworks (Django preferred) through coursework or projects
  • Familiarity with JavaScript
  • Familiarity with Python, or experience in another language with a strong desire to learn Python
  • Familiarity with modern web standards, including HTML5 and CSS3
  • Familiarity with Linux or UNIX-like systems
  • Experience with Apache, PostgreSQL, or ReactJS is a plus
  • Experience with Python unit testing and full-stack web testing is a plus

Salary Ranges

At Cboe, we are committed to providing a competitive, transparent, and market‑informed total rewards program. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $76,500-$99,000, with actual compensation determined by job‑related factors such as skills, relevant experience, education, internal alignment, and location. This role may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and, where applicable, participation in Cboe's long-term equity programs.
