Job description

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.


We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor to supervise maintenance personnel, ensuring high productivity while managing departmental resources within budget limitations and supporting efficient production operations. This position is an integral part of the plant leadership team and to supervise based on the business and operational needs of the plant. Additionally, the role provides technical support to maintenance personnel and plant management and ensures proper deployment of maintenance staff according to skill set, experience, training, and education. This leader will be responsible for the plant’s overall preventive maintenance program, including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, steam, water, vacuum, and compressed air systems at our Toma Tek plant in Firebaugh, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate or adapt equipment and/or technology to meet plant needs and apply scientific methodology to solve problems.
  • Supervise the operation, installation, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment and systems.
  • Assist in developing an annual plant operating budget that supports maintenance programs and process improvement or expansion projects. Monitor expenditures for materials, parts, and labor.
  • Supervise maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of all required maintenance and repairs, preparing the plant for production requirements.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate maintenance staff performance.

Requirements:

  • Associate of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Two (2) years of direct experience in maintenance supervision, including process analysis, troubleshooting, and the execution of continuous improvement initiatives. Proven ability to lead and manage large teams, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance with safety standards, and achievement of production goals.
  • Strong background in food manufacturing environments, with hands-on experience in preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment reliability, and root cause analysis. Specialized expertise in tomato processing operations, including aseptic processing systems and formulated sauce production, with a focus on optimizing thermal efficiency, steam control, and mechanical reliability is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance management software (preferably AMMS). Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, credit screen, and to work extended schedule, weekends, and any shift needed during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.
