Job description

Position Overview:

The Data Development group manages the lifecycle of data used for trading, back-testing, and research at Squarepoint. We work with quantitative researchers and tech teams to integrate, process, and serve data from a huge variety of sources into our data infrastructure.

We are currently seeking new data developers to join our Data Platform team, where teamwork and collaboration are encouraged, excellence is rewarded and diversity of thought and creative solutions are valued. Our emphasis is on a culture of learning, development, and growth.

Data Platform is a team of Python developers working closely with technology developers and quantitative developers to design, build, test, and maintain libraries, services and frameworks used by data pipelines and investment teams across the entire Squarepoint organization. 

Data Platform is able to deploy infrastructure, frameworks and tools to the rest of the Squarepoint business at speed, with stability, observability, access control and performance at top of mind. Services and libraries are resilient and highly maintainable. Data models are carefully designed in close collaboration with our domain experts for efficient application development, predictable behavior and ease of debugging. Data Platform developers also support developers in adopting and efficiently using the tools and products developed, and increase the team's quality of life, throughput, and code quality.

  • Acquire a deep understanding of the interface and tooling requirements of developers to deliver the right solutions to them.
  • Design, implement, test, optimize and troubleshoot Python libraries, frameworks, and services.
  • Design and add features to React frontends when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with technologists to ensure that our data applications and data platform meet evolving business requirements.
  • Work closely with data operations and data pipeline developers to improve development velocity and reduce our technical debt; increase the team's quality of life.
  • Write and review technical documents, such as requirements docs for new features, design docs to propose new platform solutions, and production support runbooks.
  • Lend a hand in support operations - during normal working hours - to help troubleshoot higher-order production issues when first line support personnel require deeper investigation.

Must haves

  • Only candidates with more than 4 full years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM subject.
  • Strong skills programming in Python.
  • Practical knowledge of commonly used protocols and tools used to transfer data (e.g. FTP, SFTP, HTTP APIs, AWS S3).
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice to haves 

  • 4+ years designing, testing, optimizing and troubleshooting data intensive applications or services, or similar.
  • Experience across multiple techincal domains: such as web development, data engineering, backend development, operations.
  • Experience with any of these: SQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, C++, Rust.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis or Valkey, FastAPI, Kubernetes, Helm, Hashicorp Vault, Hashicorp Nomad
