This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio office 2 days per week.

Are you passionate about building quality into software from the start? We’re looking for a Sr Engineer, Software Engineer (Test Automation Developer) to help drive quality across the Enterprise Digital Portal (developer.nationwide.com). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building scalable automation frameworks, partnering closely with software engineers, and enabling fast, reliable software delivery.

What You’ll Do:
  • Build and enhance automated testing frameworks using Playwright (required) and support existing automation built with Cypress.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, and product owner throughout the development lifecycle to ensure quality is built into every feature.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve test failures while continuously improving test stability and reliability.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test solutions for web applications, APIs, and microservices.
What we are looking for:
  • Experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks using Playwright (required).
  • Experience with Cypress and maintaining existing automated test suites.
  • Experience testing modern web applications built with JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (Angular).
  • Experience testing REST APIs and service integrations.
  • Experience testing using Postman.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates (GitHub Actions).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Passion for continuous learning, automation, and improving engineering quality.
Job Description Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze solutions, develop, test, debug, document, and deploy software according to standards and best practices.
Reporting Relationships:

Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:
  • Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degrees are preferred. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
  • Experience: Two or more years of software engineering, analysis, or related technology experience.
  • Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to tackle moderately complex business and development problems.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
