Job description

The Software Development Manager's role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of organizational information systems and software applications. The Software Development Manager is also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing systems and applications. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide the development team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.

This is a working manager role - individual will also be responsible for the design and development of new software applications. Analyzes, improves and maintains HEXPOL's internal process control system running at local, national, and international locations within our Company. Maintains and improves other in-house developed applications.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.  As a working manager, design and develop software applications using MS C#, Microsoft SQL Server database and other tools to support the business.
  • Manage the workload of software engineers; prioritize and execute based on business needs
  • Implement, test and debug support software applications
  • Maintain all code and documentation in Microsoft's Visual Source Safe and GitKraken version control software
  • Write documentation within code and process of shop floor manufacturing applications
  • Determine project requirements in designing innovative programs or modifying existing programs
  • Interact with fellow IT members and associates in the design or training stages of a project, vendors if evaluating software, hardware or controls needed for a project
  • Provide training to users which may vary from production personnel to office desktop users
  • Provide phone support to fellow Associates to resolve program/training issues or supply customized process data
  • Troubleshoot program issues to discover the problem and safe and use best practice solution
  • Travel will be necessary to domestic or international locations in support of the above items
  • Perform any other project/task as assigned by Management
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or Technical preferred
  • Three to Five plus (3-5+) years of experience in software development as a manager
  • Ten plus (10+) years of experience in a software programming position
  • Proven experience in overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models
  • Direct, hands-on experience with automated software and system management tools
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  • Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient computer/systems skills - 10 years MS Visual Studio C# experience plus knowledge of C++, MS SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS and DBA), VB 6, (DevExpress, HTML, ISS, SML, WEB API a plus)
  • Solid organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and manage a broad range of responsibilities
  • High degree of concentration, diligence, high energy, initiative-taking and self-reliance
  • Ability to coach and help develop Associates
  • Ability to interact well with all personality types
  • Strong cooperation, collaboration, and team-building skills
  • Effective analytical and critical thinking skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement
