Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Software Certification Engineer - Aviation at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role you will act as a key contributor and/or Lead Certification Engineer in the area of software certification for aviation products. You will direct, audit, and independently approve that aviation article software is developed, documented, and released in a way that complies with all internal software development processes and aviation software standards (RTCA DO-178B/C). You will also be responsible for directing software project teams to find and document evidence of compliance, and to address deficiencies as required.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct Aviation article level Software DO-178B/C process compliance audits
    • Approve software life cycle data for compliance to RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C, in support of product TSOAs or conformities
    • Serve as significant contributor in the software certification ofavionics, applying extensive technical expertise and analysis in all assigned projects
    • Provide technical input and leadership in software certification tasks of software quality assurance, documentation, and compliance findings
  • Represent software certification group with internal and external customers, other quality groups and certification authorities(FAA, EASA, etc)
  • Manage and prioritize DO-178B/C software quality assurance activities
  • Lead analysis of article software issues and errors for root cause in the areas of source code analysis, requirements, testing or processes
  • Lead software improvement efforts through collaboration with software development teams based on root cause analysis and facilitate communication of results to management
  • Suggest, define and document new or improved processes for DO-178B/C software quality assurance
  • Lead participation and presentations for internal/external quality or certification audits and respond to issues or findings
  • Lead development and approval of new methods, processes and software certification approaches
  • Lead collaboration and exhibit professionalism in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve software certification goals

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or another relevant field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR a Master of Science Degree in one of the fields noted above AND a minimum of 8 years relevant experience
  • Outstanding academics (minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of RTCA DO-178B/DO-187C processes and related certification guidance for software
  • Demonstrates proven leadership skills, including experience and/or capability to effectively train and mentor others
  • Relevant experience or training in software quality assurance processes and methodologies for aviation products
  • Demonstrates proficient understanding of software concepts and interfaces for system integration
  • Demonstrates proficient understanding of unit and system certification as they relate to software certification
  • Driven and self motivated with a proven track record in successfully executing projects of any scale or complexity
  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Able to effectively manage time without direction and makes good judgment on priorities and focus areas
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a cross-functional setting with business partners
