Job description

Position Overview
Power your future with Qualus in our Engineering department as a Substation Drafting Technician. The Substation Drafter supports the design team by preparing technical drawings and documentation for substation projects. Working under limited supervision, this role involves creating detailed design drawings and layouts used for construction, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with project standards.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare substation design drawings, including but not limited to:
    • General Arrangement and Elevation Drawings
    • Bill of Materials
    • One-line and three-line diagrams
    • Protection and control schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • SCADA and communication drawings
    • Conduit and cable layouts, routing, and schedules
  • Develop new drawings from existing templates, standards, sketches, or vendor information.
  • Work closely with engineers to assemble complete drawing packages.
  • Research materials, catalog data, and standards to support design accuracy.
  • Coordinate design efforts with other disciplines such as Civil, Structural, and Physical Substation design teams.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of all deliverables and participate in quality control reviews.
  • Complete work within established schedules and budgets.
  • Support project documentation and technical standards development as needed.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in computer Aided Design/Drafting, Engineering Technology, or relevant CAD Certifications required.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical drafting or related fields.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, or other CAD software such as MicroStation.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Efficient communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience with topographical surveys, site development plans, or utility mapping is a plus.
