Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator works with the safety team to ensure the company is in compliance and adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to the Safety Manager to plan, implement, and review Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Conduct safety observation reports on a regular basis, depending on the length of the project.
- Attend safety walks and inspections before or during each project to analyze safety risks.
- Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation.
- Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace.
- Investigate accidents that occur onsite and identify possible causes of the accident.
- Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents and related events.
- Conducts and participates in Safety Meetings and Audits.
- Conducts employee, contractor, and visitor Orientations.
- Customer Interface: Creates and implements safety initiatives, meetings and program as required by the customer. Work with job site safety personnel to identify and resolve safety issues.
- Medical Interface: Coordinate transportation of injured or ill employees to medical facilities. May work with medical providers and HR Department to ensure the procedure requirements of the Company's return to work program are followed.
- Coordinates New and Annual Training with Safety Manager.
- Performs Annual and New Employee Respirator Fit Tests.
- Ensures Employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations.
- Controls Inventory of Environmental Safety Supplies.
- Controls Inventory of Powered, Air Purifying Respirator Supplies.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Experience in the maritime/shipyard industry is preferred.
- GED or high school diploma required.
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree in safety, industrial health, or related field preferred.
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Background check required.
Physical requirements
Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, overhead work, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, such as accessing manholes, and awkward positions for long periods of time. Must be able to conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in environment where harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, gases, etc. might be present and the use of a respirator may be required. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions/areas that at times are not environmentally controlled. Able to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs. May be required to work prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
