This is a regular full-time management position in which the candidate will be reporting directly to the AES team lead for the wind facility. The ideal candidate must have strong leadership ability, including the ability to develop, educate, and ensure the safety of others. The position requires excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The position will require a willingness to work extra and/or irregular work hours and/or shift schedules as needed.
This position will support maintenance and site strategy by managing, tracking, and reporting site maintenance, work schedules, turbine and field repairs, and other work as required. Will be responsible for project capability, process efficiency, cost efficiency, project availability, quality standards, and any contractual obligations of the project or work area. Will analyze project performance and make recommendations to improve reliability, efficiency, and, ultimately, the project's financial performance. This position will be responsible for site safety, environmental training, and their respective programs.
This role commutes to the wind farm at West Camp Wind, Arizona, each week. The closest towns are Heber or Holbrook, AZ. You are expected to work on-site five days per week, 7 am - 3 pm, including emergency on-call. The work hours may vary if travel to a different location is needed.
A company vehicle and AES credit card will be provided.
As part of the driving requirements for this position, you must have a valid driver's license within the USA and be able to pass a background check.
Candidates must have advanced technical education or training with a minimum of five (5) years experience in plant maintenance, operations, or any other technical field or a high school diploma with a minimum of 5-8 years experience in maintenance/operations. The ideal candidate should have experience with wind turbines and systems, or other is acceptable.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform (or cause to be performed) site maintenance, including without limitation:
  • Be responsible for all operating activities; understand and ensure compliance with Vestas Full-Service agreement.
  • Plan and manage contractor work BOP and turbine repair
  • Road maintenance and snow removal, inspect project roads.
  • Substation and O&M yard, clean debris, and adequate snow removal to permit access and work.
  • Check after contractor WTG access for gate closures to avoid livestock issues.
  • Manage O&M building janitorial tasks, including trash removal and cleanliness.
  • Engage/monitor workers employed at the site for seasonal tasks. Manage workload. Develop a list of appropriate tasks to be addressed by temporary labor.
  • Attend daily POD meetings and monitor OEM work on site.

Inspections (regular basis) including but not limited to:
  • Substations month inspections and corrective work
  • Inspect WTG locations after OEM work to ensure no extension of limits of disturbance (vehicles stay on roads).
  • Gates, locks, and signage.
  • WTG gravel rings and access roads for deterioration and drainage issues.
  • Junction box, locks, and arc flash stickers.
  • SPCC monthly/quarterly checks of crane pads, access roads, gravel rings, ladder foundations, and anchor bolt covers.
  • Weed control (WTG gravel rings, substation, O&M building, emergency shelter).
  • Annual T-line vegetation inspection (photos/progress email/reports).
  • Exercise care, custody, and control of AES Clean Energy equipment and facilities.

Desired Skills, Expertise, and Competencies:
  • 5 years' Experience in Plant maintenance, operations, or other related technical fields. Experience in Wind Generation is a plus; experience with Vestas turbines is a significant advantage.

Working Conditions:
  • Outdoor work at wind power plants includes windy, dusty, high heat and snow and severe winter conditions.
  • Driver's License required.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required.
