In this role, you'll negotiate complex design-build and engineer-procure-construct (EPC) contracts, serve as trusted project counsel to our teams, and help resolve disputes practically and proactively — all in service of the trust our clients place in our firm. You'll also assist with the management of our professional liability, builder's risk, and construction-specific insurance program, and handle risk management, licensing, and corporate governance strategy across our architecture, engineering, and construction management entities.This is a high-visibility role for an experienced construction/AEC attorney who wants to work closely with executive leadership and project teams, not just review paper from the sidelines.What You'll DoContracts & NegotiationReview and negotiate design, EPC, design-build, and construction management contractsDraft and modify AIA, EJCDC, ConsensusDocs, DBIA, and owner-drafted formsLead negotiations with Executive Team, Project Leadership, and ProcurementMaintain the firm's contract and template libraryRisk Management & StrategyShape risk mitigation strategy with the Project TeamAdvise on project selection risk and delivery methodologySupport business development through proactive contract terms and direct client engagementProject Support & Dispute ResolutionGuide teams through the project lifecycle — kickoff to close-outManage disputes: client discussions, liens, mediation, arbitration, litigation, settlementsCoordinate with insurers and outside counselWhat You'll BringJD from an accredited law schoolLicensed to practice in at least one U.S. state5+ years in legal experience ideally with an Architecture, Engineering & Construction firmSkilled in drafting and negotiating design-build, EPC, and CM contractsWorking knowledge of construction insurance, including professional liabilityWilling to travel up to 15%#LI-AK1At Barry-Wehmiller we recognize that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.
