Role Summary

Athena is seeking an innovative procurement professional to drive strategic sourcing initiatives and vendor partnerships. Based in Brighton, MA with a hybrid work arrangement, this role focuses on executing data-driven procurement strategies and risk mitigation to secure quality goods and services at optimal cost. The Senior Associate, Procurement will report directly to the Director, Procurement.

Team Summary

The Procurement team is responsible for acquiring essential goods and services for athenahealth while managing the entire purchasing lifecycle. The team drives supplier selection, negotiation, contract management, and vendor relationship oversight. They work collaboratively to achieve cost efficiency, risk mitigation, and compliance with corporate policies, ultimately contributing to the overall operational success of the organization.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute indirect category sourcing strategies based on comprehensive spend analysis.

  • Analyze and translate spend data into actionable category plans that enhance ROI and bottom-line performance.

  • Cultivate and maintain trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendor partners to ensure alignment with business requirements.

  • Negotiate vendor contracts to secure favorable terms while reducing third-party cost and mitigating risk.

  • Establish and monitor performance metrics for vendor management and procurement process efficiency.

  • Lead sourcing events, such as RFx initiatives, to optimize terms and drive strategic cost savings.

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Provide regular updates and detailed reports on procurement metrics to leadership and relevant business units.

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement continuous improvement opportunities across procurement processes and systems.

  • Support the integration and effective usage of procurement toolsets for spend analysis and source-to-pay management.

  • Assist with market evaluations, tracking commodity trends and price movements to uncover alternative sources of supply.

Expected Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or Business preferred.

  • A minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in Procurement, Spend Analysis, Strategic Sourcing, or Source-to-Pay processes.

  • Proven track record in negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships.

  • Advanced knowledge of procurement industry cost structures, drivers, and related analytic tools.

  • Demonstrated strong financial analytic acumen with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Expected Compensation

$73,000 - $125,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevantknowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles,and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
