Job description

The role is responsible for the strategic oversight, development, implementation, and monitoring of the loss prevention and patient safety programs at the designated facility. This role ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory standards and promotes a culture of safety throughout the organization. The Director serves as a primary resource and advisor to professional staff, hospital personnel, and medical staff on matters related to risk management and patient safety.
*Certain positions may entail additional functional responsibilities, as determined by organizational needs, to support the facility's goals and operational effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities
  • Leads and participates in the development and execution of loss prevention and patient safety initiatives across the designated entity and its facilities.
  • Oversees the investigation of potential and actual claims and lawsuits, including evidence collection, conducting interviews, reviewing medical records, and participating in root cause analysis processes.
  • Reviews and analyzes unusual occurrence reports, conducts further investigations as needed, and recommends corrective actions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders; evaluates the effectiveness of corrective measures and proposes additional actions if necessary.
  • Tracks and trends incidents, occurrences, claims, and lawsuits within the facility; recommends corrective actions and evaluates their effectiveness in consultation with senior leadership.
  • Identifies and assesses risk exposures within the facility, proposes control measures, and evaluates their effectiveness, recommending further actions as needed.
  • Represents risk management and patient safety on relevant organizational committees, providing leadership, reports, and guidance on management and operational issues.
  • Coordinates responses to discovery requests in lawsuits against the entity, as directed.
  • Engages in professional activities, associations, and certifications related to risk management and patient safety to maintain expertise and industry knowledge.
  • Completes assigned organizational goals and objectives.

Education
  • Minimum Requirement: Associate degree in health-related/nursing field

Preferred: Certification in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM-Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management or obtain within 2 years of hire.) Quality Management (CPHQ-Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) and/or Patient Safety (CPPS-Certified Professional In-Patient Safety) a plus.
Special Skills
Skill and proficiency in applying highly technical principles, concepts and techniques which are central to the risk management profession. Knowledge of licensure and accrediting requirements; ability to communicate and work effectively with medical staff, department heads and administration; assertive, objective, tactful and courteous in all dealings with professional staff, patients and guests; excellent organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
