Job description

The Department of Medicine - The Division of Malignant Hematology/ Medical Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking full-time faculty at the level of Assistant Professor, appointment or tenure stream, Associate Professor, appointment or tenure stream and Professor appointment or tenured. Qualified applicants will be established investigators with a proven track record in extramural NIH funding. Exciting opportunities are available for translational research and clinical care. Qualified applicants must hold an MD and be Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) physicians or physician scientists, with demonstrated status as established investigators, a proven record of extramural NIH funding, and a strong publication record. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with prior training and experience.
The job responsibilities and expectations for this role of Co-Director of the Bioinformatics Core is to facilitate analysis of DNA, RNA, protein, and chromatin and other large data set data together with clinical data for basic, translational, and clinical researchers within the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Work with the leadership team and support staff to implement approaches to elevate the science of UPMC Hillman as measured by publications, grants, and clinical trials. The expectation of the founding director of the drug development center in the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is to first become aware of the potential IP related to cancer discovery that exists in UPMC Hillman and the University of Pittsburgh. The percentage of effort for this position is 50% Research, 5% Teaching, 5% Service, and 40% Administration.
Applicants for Assistant Professor, appointment or tenure stream, should demonstrate three or more years of experience in related scientific research; have achieved, or recognized the capacity to obtain, external research funding; have dispersed results through peer reviewed publications and other recognized scholarly forums; possess noteworthy teaching experience; and have recognized the ability for continual career development leading to promotion and tenure.
Applicants for Associate Professor, appointment or tenure stream, should have five or more years of relevant scientific research experience; should establish clear evidence of independent external research funding, an extensive and continued record of peer reviewed publications, prevalent teaching experience, and a well established volume for consistent, influential, and independent scholarship, leadership, and professional contribution.
Applicants for Professor, appointment or tenured, are expected to have completed five to seven years at the rank of Associate Professor. The rank of professor signifies the attainment of recognized scholarly authority and professional integrity within an established field of study, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching. The professor should demonstrate prominent standing in the field, evidenced by sustained scholarship, distinguished professional practice, and leadership within specialized professional and scholarly organizations.
