Description:

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto - St. Michael's Hospital are seeking internal applications for the Arrell Chair in Precision Critical Care Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and hold or have accepted and signed a Scientist appointment letter of offer at Unity Health Toronto - St. Michael's Hospital. This is a five-year, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael's Hospital endowed chair. The tentative start date of this appointment is October 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate will be a nationally and internationally recognized clinician-scientist at Unity Health Toronto with an established research program in Critical Care and a very strong track record of research activity and success. Their research should be internationally recognized and align with the research priorities of Unity Health Toronto as a world class centre for mechanical ventilation and respiratory physiology research. A research focus on mechanical ventilation physiology and platform clinical trial expertise and design will be prioritized.

Applicants will be evaluated by an Appointments Committee according to University of Toronto and St. Michael's Hospital policies. Consideration will be given to the applicant's record of scholarly activity (including but not limited to grants, peer-reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students and fellows, teaching) and contributions to the field. Professionalism and contributions to St. Michael's Hospital and the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and incorporation of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles into their research program will also be considered.

The chair will provide up to $370,000 per year for 5 years, which will be used to top up clinical salary support of the incumbent, as well as support the academic activities and/or interests of the incumbent, which may include research operations and educational events.
