What is an associate product manager?

Associate Product Managers (APMs) are entry-level professionals who help develop and manage products within an organization. They work under the guidance of senior product managers, assisting with tasks such as market research, product development, and coordination between engineering, design, and marketing teams. APMs gain hands-on experience in the product lifecycle and often use this role as a stepping stone to more senior product management positions.

What are some common challenges faced by associate product managers, and how can they overcome them?

Associate Product Managers often face the challenge of balancing input from multiple stakeholders while maintaining focus on the product's vision and goals. Navigating ambiguity and managing shifting priorities are also typical hurdles, as projects can evolve quickly based on market feedback or leadership direction. To overcome these challenges, it's important to develop strong communication skills, stay organized with clear documentation, and proactively seek mentorship from senior product managers. Building relationships across engineering, design, and marketing teams can also help ensure alignment and smooth collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Product Manager, you need analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a background in business, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with product management tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana, and experience with data analytics platforms such as Google Analytics or Mixpanel, are typically beneficial. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help you collaborate across departments and respond to changing user needs. These skills are essential for successfully driving product initiatives and ensuring alignment with business goals.

Your Role
While the role sits within the broader Invesco Private Markets platform, the core responsibilities are focused on helping bring private real estate equity and credit strategies to market, as well as the on-going support of those already in market. This includes partnering closely with Client Portfolio Managers, Investment Teams, Sales, Marketing, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to develop high-quality materials that support fundraising, client education, investor due diligence and product updates/maintenance.
You Will Be Responsible For:

• Assist in the day-to-day management of in-market real estate products, including maintaining offering documents, due diligence materials, marketing collateral, and product data, while partnering closely with Operations, Investor Relations, Marketing, Compliance, Legal, and Portfolio Management.
• Build strong internal and external relationships across investment, distribution, consultant, and investor communities to support fundraising objectives.
• Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and industry monitoring to identify product enhancements, investor trends, and strategic growth opportunities.
• Develop and coordinate due diligence materials, including DDQs, RFP responses, data room content, product presentations, and responses to investor and consultant inquiries.
• Contribute to product development and enhancement projects, including new product launches, vehicle structuring initiatives, channel expansion opportunities, and cross-functional implementation efforts.
• Support investor and consultant engagement efforts by coordinating responses to strategy-specific inquiries and communicating product developments, portfolio updates, and investment outcomes.
• Ability to explain and simplify complex information to others, and lead the coordination of information to ensure ongoing process or execution.
The Experience You Bring:
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial services, preferably within private markets, real estate, product management, investor relations, client portfolio management, fundraising, strategy, or related disciplines. Understanding of private real estate equity and/or credit investments, private fund structures, portfolio management, fundraising processes, and institutional investor due diligence requirements.
  • Knowledge of institutional investor channels, including consultants, pensions, insurance companies, endowments, foundations, and OCIOs, is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate complex investment strategies, portfolio positioning, and performance concepts to a broad range of internal and external audiences.
  • Understanding of how private real estate strategies fit within broader private markets and institutional portfolio allocations.
  • Familiarity with fundraising processes, competitive landscape analysis, and product lifecycle management.
