Job description

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited is currently seeking a Water & Wastewater Engineer with 7 โ€“ 12 years of experience to join our Water and Wastewater Vertical Infrastructure team.ย  As a part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects involving the assessment, planning, study, design, approval, and construction administration of municipal and some private sector water and wastewater infrastructure.

This position offers the flexibility to be based out of one of several office locations, including Mississauga, Guelph, Collingwood, Hamilton, Orangeville, or Woodstock. Occasional travel to other offices is a requirement.

Role Specifics

Reporting to Senior Water and Wastewater Engineers, the position will involve carrying out the following tasks, and includes supporting a team of engineers and technicians, to assist in their delivery:

  • Assessment, planning, study, design, approval and construction administration of water supply, treatment, pumping, storage and distribution projects and wastewater collection, pumping treatment and disposal
  • Supporting senior engineers and project managers in the production of preliminary and detailed design drawings and preparation of related reports, coordination of approvals, development of construction cost estimates, and liaising with clients, sub-consultants and contractors
  • Supporting construction inspectors and contract administrators in the field and office to become familiar with construction techniques and challenges
  • Working under the guidance of project managers and management staff across the company to develop design skills and ensure design quality standards are met
  • Collaborating with and contributing to multi-office project teams to ensure project delivery successfully meets the needs of clientsย ย 
  • Providing engineering support to multi discipline project teams as needed
  • Preparing proposals, project reports, design documents, permit applications, environmental assessment and environmental screening reports
  • Participating in planning and feasibility studies
  • Conducting condition assessments of water and wastewater facilities
  • Assisting in the development of engineering students, engineers-in-training (EITs) and junior project engineers/technologists;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • An engineering degree in a related discipline
  • 7-12 years of related experience
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • Knowledge of municipal and provincial approval processes as well as relevant agency and industry standards, guideline and best practicesย 
  • Strong analytical skillsย 
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently

The following experience and skills are considered assets:ย 

  • Experience with horizontal municipal infrastructure design, project management, contract administration and client relationships is an asset but not a requirement
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BIM, Revit, Civil 3D and MicroStation
  • WaterCad, InfoWater and SewerCAD modellingย 
  • MS Office and MS Project
