Title: Transportation Associate (Driver)
Department: Food Security
Supervisor: Transportation & Logistics Supervisor


Overview


The Transportation Associate is an operations and logistics position within the Food Security department, responsible for the collection and transportation ofproductfor distribution through The Food Security Distribution Centre. The individual must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with our valued grocery partners, donors, members of the public, fellow staff and volunteers across 3 locations and several departments to ensure the efficient collection, organization and redistribution of product. Safety and efficiency are key focuses for the Transportation Associate in all aspects of their position. The Transportation Associate must possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective operations with our staff and volunteers, specifically the Food Rescue Manager, Programming Manager, and Guest Services Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities


  • Safe and courteous operation of The Mustard Seed Street Churchs vehicles
  • Health and Safety work practices and cleanliness of vehicles and equipment
  • Be an ambassador for health and safety regulations-encourage fellow transportation associates and lead by example
  • Responsible for the well-being and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and donors during pick-ups and deliveries
  • Collaborate with Shipping/Receiving and colleagues to ensure efficient collection and distribution of product through established methods
  • Help to maintain all equipment used in Transportation, including vehicles, carts, dollies, bins, forklifts, pallet jacks or relevant equipment
  • Train, support, supervise and evaluate volunteers with a range of diverse personalities and skills
  • Effective communication with Food Security Team, donors, vendors, partner agencies, staff, volunteers and general public
  • Attending and participating in all relevant Mustard Seed Street Church meetings and training opportunities available
  • Completion of both truck inspection/trip sheets and Route Check-list daily
  • Event support for Development team
  • Participate in employee and program evaluation process
  • Other duties as required


Qualifications

  • Required BC Drivers license and acceptable abstract
  • Asset Experience driving5, 3 & 1 tontrucks; experience driving a Sprinter Van
  • Experience in vehicle inspection and completing inspection sheets
  • Asset Current forklift and power jack certification with experience completing inspection sheets (or a willingness to obtain)
  • Warehouse experience an asset
  • Food HandlingSafetyCertificate(or willingness to obtain)

  • Shift range: Monday to Friday, 6/7am to 1/2pm (typical); Saturdays 8:30/9am to 1/1:30pm; event support as needed

  • Must provide an acceptable criminal record check, including the level of clearance required to work with vulnerable people
