Position Scope

Applications Associate / Specialist / Engineer provides engineering sales support for project opportunities and reports to the Sales Applications Manager.

In this exciting and fast paced role, you will receive guidance and mentorship from experienced colleagues within the Applications and Outside Sales Teams, making this position an ideal opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the food processing industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customer requirements, client bid packages, scope information and drawings.
  • Design/configure our proposed equipment, complete with FPS fabricated equipment and buyouts from other OEMs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure our proposed process line is functional, cost-effective, efficient and meets customer requirements.
  • Create 2D or 3D technical equipment and layout sales drawings.
  • Complete a cost study of the project.
  • Prepare professional proposals and bid documents.
  • Handoff won projects to our Project Management Office.
  • Maintain and update design templates, tools and records.
  • Assist in drafting analysis reports, including tables/charts or other sales support documentation as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Affiliation: Registered P.Eng.; if not licensed, treated as Applications Specialist.
  • Experience: Hands-on experience of food processing, mechanical equipment design, sales, project estimation, proposal writing, equipment manufacturing, P&IDs and refrigeration.
  • Drafting Proficiency: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD 2D Drafting.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Able to quickly learn and understand mechanical/engineering concepts, equipment function and basic principles of physics.
  • Excellent Communication & Technical Writing Skills: Capable of clearly articulating ideas and project details in both written and verbal forms.
  • Detail-Oriented: Able to pay attention and focus on small details - which can have a large impact on the overall solution we are providing.
  • Fast Processor of Information: Able to quickly grasp project requirements and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Energetic, Collaborative, and Deadline-Driven: Proactive in engaging with team members and committed to meeting timelines.
  • Quick Learner: Desire and ability to absorb new concepts, technologies, knowledge and processes.
  • Problem Solver/Critical Thinking Skills: Ability to analyze/process multiple pieces of information and solve for the best engineering solution.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Able to effectively mentor and coach APP-1s, increasing their technical knowledge and technical ability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Platforms: Familiarity with Word, Excel, Teams and other essential software tools.

Asset Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ideal candidate will have experience within the following industries:
    • Experience within Potato / French Fry processing.
    • Experience within Vegetable, Fruit processing.
    • Experience within Meat, Poultry or Seafood processing.
  • Languages: Proficiency in multiple languages, in addition to English, is advantageous.

Additional Note:

  • Candidates with less experience will be considered for the position of Applications Associate.
