Job description

Job: Process Architect / Life Sciences Facility Planner
Location: Lenexa, KS, Chesterfield, MO or Broomfield, CO
Build Your Future with GBA
At GBA, we're a collaborative team of architects, engineers, and technical specialists dedicated to creating thoughtful, high-performing environments that support innovation and improve quality of life.
We're seeking a Process Architect to join our Life Sciences team in Lenexa, KS, Chesterfield, MO or Broomfield, CO. This role sits at the intersection of operations, process planning, and architecture - helping clients define how their facilities function before detailed design begins.
You'll focus on front-end planning and early design, translating operational workflows into efficient, compliant, and well-integrated facility layouts.
What You'll Do
  • Support programming workshops and client planning sessions by documenting requirements and translating them into space plans and adjacency diagrams.
  • Analyze operational workflows and help translate process narratives into spatial planning solutions.
  • Develop planning-driven layouts that integrate process flow, adjacencies, and operational strategy.
  • Assist with architectural elevations, visual studies, and renderings to communicate design intent.
  • Participate in feasibility studies, master planning efforts, and early design phases.
  • Support preliminary regulatory and cGMP planning considerations with guidance from senior team members.
  • Work across a variety of project types including:
  • Greenfield developments
  • Renovations and facility expansions
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
  • Laboratories and technical spaces
  • Offices and warehouse/distribution environments
  • Coordinate closely with GBA's in-house architects, engineers, and preconstruction professionals.
  • Conduct field investigations and assist with planning documentation.
  • Contribute across multiple projects simultaneously, typically through early design phases (~30%).

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field.
  • 8-12 years of experience in architecture, facility planning, or process-driven environments.
  • Strong interest in space planning, adjacency strategy, and early-phase project planning.
  • Exposure to regulated environments or life sciences design is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Interest in early-phase planning and client interaction is essential.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk project sites for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to travel to job sites occasionally (minimum once per month).

  • Professional development and career advancement opportunities
  • Salary ranges from $125,000 - $160,000/year based on experience level and location.
