The HIDI Group is seeking an experienced Associate, Base Building Electrical to join our Electrical team.


This role is ideal for an experienced consulting engineer who enjoys leading projects, mentoring technical teams, building strong client relationships, and contributing to the continued growth of an established engineering practice.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Principal, Electrical, the Associate is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the Base Building Electrical team.


Working closely with the Principal, you will oversee project delivery, mentor engineers and designers, support business development initiatives, and ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to HIDI's technical standards. You'll play an important role in the continued growth of both the Electrical practice and the people within it.


Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of engineers, designers, and technical staff
  • Manage team workloads, resource planning, and project assignments
  • Conduct performance reviews and support employee development
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment

Project Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of complex base building electrical projects from concept through construction
  • Ensure projects meet technical, budget, schedule, and quality objectives
  • Review drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports
  • Provide technical guidance and peer review to project teams
  • Support project financial performance, resource planning, and utilization
  • Act as a senior technical resource for project teams and clients

Client Relationships & Business Development

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients
  • Identify opportunities for repeat business and project growth
  • Support proposal preparation, fee submissions, and presentations
  • Represent HIDI at client meetings and industry events
  • Collaborate with Principals on business development and strategic growth initiatives

Operations

  • Monitor project staffing, utilization, and financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, quality procedures, and applicable codes
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Electrical group


What You Bring

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Progressive consulting engineering experience with a focus on base building electrical systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading project teams and mentoring technical staff
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), ASHRAE, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (Revit experience is considered an asset)
  • Strong understanding of project management, budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship management skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality work and building lasting client relationships
