Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Consumers Energy knows job number one is to keep the lights on for customers. We are committed to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable energy to our customers 24/7.

Location: This position is onsite at the Parnall Office located in Jackson, Michgian.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

Retention Policy: Due to extensive training and OQ processes, the selected candidate will have a 36month retention period from the start date before being eligible to apply for positions outside of Gas Control.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Gas Controller has operational authority to dispatch supply and make the necessary operational decisions to maintain safe and excellent operations for Consumers Energy Natural Gas customers. The incumbent must be able to develop lowcomplexity operational plans and execute them by communicating the plan to operational personnel. Analyze basic operational issues and make timely decisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with monitoring, controlling, and operating the gas transmission and distribution system in a manner that meets operational and regulatory needs.
Use computerassisted application software and equipment to prepare lowcomplexity business analysis support documents.
Direct operational support personnel in abnormal operating and emergency conditions.
Communicate with Consumers Energy's Gas Operations to formulate and execute basic operational plans and system supply decisions to meet the Consumers Energy GCR plan.
Other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Highly detailoriented
Must be able to obtain the Gas Controller qualification within 6-15 months
Oral and written communication skills
Experience monitoring and operating highpressure fluid systems using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
Ability to work alternating day/evening shifts

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a technical field
o (OR) Associate's degree in a technical field with two (2) or more years of experience in gas field or pipeline operations
o (OR) High School Diploma/GED with four (4) or more years of experience in gas field or pipeline operations
