GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, responsible for collecting, abstracting, managing, entering, analyzing, and auditing patient data within assigned department and as required for Saint Alphonsus, the State of Idaho, and national data registries. Responsible for compiling and maintaining data and generating reports.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Cancer Center Administration:
• Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) degree preferred
• 1 year experience as a Tumor Registrar or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification with the National Cancer Registrar Association (NCRA) preferred.
• CTR certification obtained within one year of eligible hours worked and experience
• In lieu of CTR or RHIT, Associate's Degree required
• Heart Center Administration:
• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field required
• Associate's degree and one of the following options may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years' experience; Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or related quality / coding certification by the American Health Information Management Association; Licensed in the State of Idaho or Oregon as a Registered Nurse as defined by the Idaho or Oregon State Board of Nursing depending on the State where the colleague works.
• Trauma Service Administration:
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or related quality / Coding Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) , preferred
• Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) certification preferred
• Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification preferred
• Experience as a Trauma Registrar, or as an Inpatient Hospital Coder preferred
• CSTR and CAISS certifications obtained within one year of eligible hours worked and experience
• Experience in ICD-10 Inpatient Hospital Coding required
• Experience in MS Excel and Word required
• Understanding or Performance Improvement Processes.
• Experience in data collection and management preferred

• Identify cardiovascular, trauma and/or tumor admissions that meet the Saint Alphonsus, State of Idaho, and/or national registry criteria for inclusion in registries
• Abstract each patient's chart to record accurate data, diagnosis, procedures, operations, complications, and discharge status
• Prepare statistical reports and comply with all reporting requests and requirements
• Abide by confidentiality requirements as they relate to the release of individual or aggregate patient information
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of abstraction guidelines
• Participate in educational opportunities to enhance knowledge
• Enter information into applicable databases, monitors for deficiencies, and submit data in accordance with registry guidelines
• Assist with projects for accreditation and department needs.
• Cancer Center Administration :
• Reviews pathology, cytology reports, diagnostic index reports and neoplasm lists for case finding
• Analyze and abstract records of all patients who are diagnosed or treated at Saint Alphonsus for a cancer diagnosis with accuracy, completeness, and in a quality manner according to the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC), National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) SEER and Idaho State registry standards.
• Performs monthly and annual follow-up on all analytic cases per ACoS standards.
• Monthly reporting of all reportable abstracted cancer cases to Cancer Data Registry of Idaho (CDRI), Oregon State Cancer Registry (OSCaR), NCDB, and ACoS
• Assists in the compilation and analysis of information from the registry including statistical studies and evaluations requested by hospital staff. Participates in studies initiated by ACoS.
• Knowledgeable of the legal requirements to safeguard and protect the privacy and confidentiality of information about cancer patients.
• Coordinates cancer conferences: prepare case agendas, coordinates efforts to obtain radiology films and pathology slides, monitors cancer conference activities, and reports activities to Cancer Committee
• Communicates and interacts with the medical and administrative staff and supports the activities of the Cancer Committee
• Assists with coordinating and preparing components of the cancer program for ACoS/CoC survey process
• Knowledgeable of ACoS standards and ensures that Saint Alphonsus maintains its standing as an ACoS accredited program
• Responsible for maintaining the functions and daily operations of the Tumor Registry
• Trauma Service Administration:
• Identifies trauma patients who meet the Trauma Registry inclusion criteria as defined by Saint Alphonsus, State of Idaho, and/or National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS).
• Analyzes, abstracts, and enters clinical data on the trauma patient into the trauma registry database adhering to the criteria defined by the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCOT), and NTDS.
• Accurately assigns diagnosis, procedures, and injury severity codes utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS, and the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) coding tools.
• Interfaces with Trauma Program Coordinators for clinical data, and on performance improvement processes.
• Prepares monthly validation reports to ensure data entered is compliant with all standards for defined by Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), ACSCOT, and the NTDS required for benchmarking and accreditation.
• Quarterly submission of data to the NTDB and Idaho Trauma Registry (ITR)
• Prepares monthly statistical reports for the Trauma Services Dashboard, and other reports as requested by the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Coordinators, or Trauma Medical Director.
• Provides statistical data for various departments within Saint Alphonsus approved by the Trauma Program Manager.
• Provides statistical data for research or special studies approved by the Trauma Program Manager or Trauma Medical Director.
• Knowledgeable in NTDS, TQIP, and ACSCOT standards and ensure that Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center maintains its standing as a Level II Trauma Center.
