The Department of Radiology and Imaging at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University, Georgia's premier health sciences university, is recruiting a faculty member at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, as a Chest/Thoracic Radiologist. This is a great opportunity to join a department in the midst of expansion, including growing our Georgia Cancer Center and breaking ground on our 2nd hospital site (in adjacent Columbia County). Responsibilities will include a combination of patient care and teaching of medical students and residents in a busy tertiary and quaternary care center . Academic time is provided, and new research projects are encouraged. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Clinical Service - 20%
- Interpret a broad array of thoracic imaging: chest radiographs; chest CTs; chest MRIs.
- Review emergent/urgent pulmonary imaging.
- Oncologic thoracic imaging: lung cancer detection/staging/restaging; mediastinal masses, chest wall tumors.
- Collaborate with pulmonologists, thoracic surgery, oncology, radiation oncology in multidisciplinary settings (tumor boards, ILD boards, etc.).
- Develop and maintain imaging protocols specific to chest & thoracic work.
- On-call duty: evening, weekend, and emergent reads for thoracic.
Teaching / Education - 20%
- Teach medical students, radiology residents, and possibly fellows in thoracic imaging: case interpretation, chest pathology, advanced imaging techniques.
- Conduct didactic lectures and case conferences focused on thoracic disease.
- Mentor trainees in research or projects related to thoracic imaging.
- Participate in departmental/residency curriculum development, especially for thoracic imaging rotations.
- Provide supervision and feedback on thoracic reads, especially more complex or advanced imaging.
Research / Scholarly Activity - 20%
- Engage in research in thoracic imaging: topics might include imaging biomarkers of lung disease, quantitative imaging of lung parenchyma, AI / machine learning in chest CT or radiographs, imaging in lung cancer screening, outcomes studies, radiation dose optimization.
- Quality improvement projects: turnaround time for chest CTs, reducing repeat imaging, optimizing protocols to reduce motion artifact / radiation dose.
- Publish, present at conferences.
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues on clinical and translational studies.
Service / Administration - 20%
- Serve on multidisciplinary tumor board committees.
- Help set departmental policy for imaging standards, protocols, quality assurance in thorax.
- Peer review of thoracic imaging reports, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Quality, Safety, Compliance - 20%
- Contribution to institutional goals (e.g. imaging center workflow, equipment acquisition, implementing new technologies relevant to thoracic imaging).
- Ensure chest CT / MRI / chest radiograph / chest imaging safety practices: radiation dose optimization, contrast protocols, MRI safety especially for cardiac gating or thoracic MRI.
- Monitor image quality, reduce imaging artifacts, ensure appropriate scan coverage.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (state, institutional) related to thoracic imaging, contrast, etc.
- Participate in peer-review and QA processes for thoracic imaging reports
Required Qualifications
MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree. Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency. Board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology.
Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.
Instructor - A medical professional in training who holds a medical degree and has completed residency training who will contribute to teaching, student support, and the clinical mission of the institution.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Fellowship training in Thoracic Imaging or Cardiothoracic Radiology.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
