PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Discipleship Department seeks to advance and support the vision through creating faithful environments that foster finding and following Jesus through common practices like Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.


The Director of Young Adults supports the Discipleship Department and the vision for Highland Park Presbyterian Church by cultivating an environment of discipleship among young adults that includes those fresh out of college to young marrieds in their 30s.

DESIRED RESULTS/IMPACT OF THIS POSITION

  • Creatively engaging, shepherding and fostering community within the various life stages of young adults - college graduates, singles, working, young marrieds
  • Creating a culture of servant leadership within the young adult generation
  • Equipping young adults to bring their faith into the workplace
  • Intentional formation for young marrieds

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee lead team to plan and foster Sunday Class, social events, equipping workshops, and ongoing community groups
  • Weekly contact work with young adult community and volunteers
  • Oversee Marriage Prep - a 6-week class for seriously dating and engaged couples to prepare for a Christ-centered marriage
  • Seek new ways to engage our young marrieds who are not actively participating besides worship
  • Work with the Pastor of Discipleship to assist in teaching and worship responsibilities for the church-at-large

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Motivates and empowers direct report
  • Holds regularly schedule team meeting and keeps them informed
  • Holds direct report accountable to outcomes and workplace expectations listed on position description, including regular reviews
  • Works with HR and immediate supervisor in hiring and offboarding process

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Four-year degree preferred
  • Experience: 2+ years of connecting and energizing people
  • Knowledge and Skills: Approachable, friendly and outgoing. Highly organized, administrative and dependable.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ABILITIES

  • Frequent lifting under 30 lb
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure
