Job description

The American Flood Coalition (AFC) is a nonpartisan group that drives transformational adaptation to higher seas, stronger storms, and more frequent flooding. AFC comprises more than 500 elected officials, local leaders, military groups, and businesses that work together to advance resilient and equitable flood solutions at the local, state, and federal levels. As the only organization that focuses on flooding across all levels of government, AFC is uniquely positioned to help advance solutions that keep communities safe.
Position Summary
AFC is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative self-starter to join our growing team. The Associate Director of Partnerships will play an essential role to advance AFC's mission by leading partnership and stakeholder relationship strategy to expand our ability to support flood-affected communities. They will work across program teams to coordinate AFC's work with partners (nonprofits, corporations, trade associations, and other similar groups) and ensure alignment within the organization. Note: this is not a fundraising role, though the Associate Director may occasionally collaborate with the development team.
This is an exciting opportunity to help AFC build out our strategy on industry, trade group, and non-profit partnerships. The ideal candidate will have strong project and relationship management skills to ensure partnerships translate into successful outcomes for flood-affected communities. They will also represent AFC at industry events, conferences, and corporate convenings, identifying opportunities to support AFC's strategy, disseminate best practices, and grow organizational reach.

Responsibilities
  • Lead coordination of AFC's industry and other non-governmental partnerships across the organization, ensuring internal alignment across program teams, tracking of engagement, and a consistent external experience.
  • Develop and execute AFC's first holistic industry partnership strategy to bridge public and private sector collaboration on resilience, in collaboration with AFC's leadership team.
  • Identify new areas for collaboration by increasing partnership outreach to establish relationships with organizations, companies, and other entities to collaborate in service of AFC's mission while strengthening engagement with existing partners.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with organizations, businesses, and other non-governmental stakeholders on a bipartisan level, positioning AFC as a trusted voice in flood resilience and adaptation at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Serve as a key representative of AFC at industry events and conferences to identify and pursue areas to expand AFC's network of allies and thought partners while supporting senior leadership engagement by providing strategic insights and facilitating connections with key stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in stakeholder engagement, coalition building, and/or corporate partnership management required, with experience on non-profit partnerships preferred.
  • Experience on issues related to resilience, flooding, or disasters, preferred but not required.
  • Proven track record of building and managing partnerships to drive project outcomes and objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders, build relationships, and navigate competing priorities to achieve shared objectives.
  • Strong project management skills, including demonstrated experience designing and implementing systems to manage complex, multi-workstream programs across a distributed team.
  • A track record of learning new topics and picking up new areas of expertise quickly.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
