Description
Summary:
The Department of Mechanical & Civil Engineering and Construction Management at Alabama A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track in the Mechanical Engineering Program at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Rank and tenure status will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
We seek a dynamic and highly qualified scholar-educator with expertise in nuclear engineering, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), gas turbine systems, propulsion systems, and thermal-fluid sciences. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including Introduction to Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Reactor Engineering I and II, Gas Turbine Systems, Propulsion Systems, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and related thermal-science courses.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach high-quality undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, including but not limited to:
    1. Introduction to Nuclear Engineering
    2. Nuclear Reactor Engineering I and II
    3. Gas Turbine Systems
    4. Propulsion Systems
    5. Computational Fluid Dynamics
    6. Thermal Sciences and related courses
  • Develop, modernize, and enhance Mechanical Engineering courses and laboratories.
  • Establish and sustain an active research program that produces peer-reviewed papers and attracts external funding.
  • Supervise senior design projects, undergraduate research, and graduate projects and theses.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, student learning assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Contribute to department, college, university, and professional service.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certification, license, etc):
  • An earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field by the appointment start date.
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for, excellence in teaching, research, and service appropriate to the appointed rank.
  • Ability to teach across the Mechanical Engineering curriculum, with particular emphasis on nuclear engineering, CFD, gas turbines and propulsion, and thermal-fluid sciences.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise and teaching or research experience in nuclear reactor systems, Gas Turbine Systems, and Propulsion Systems.
  • Success in securing external research funding.
  • Experience developing and teaching laboratory-based courses using modern computational and experimental tools.
