Job description

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Traffic Discipline Leader to join either our Charleston or Columbia, SC office. 

Job Summary: 

The successful candidate will have a proven track record leading and performing diverse and complex work in the areas of traffic engineering, mentoring, and management. This position will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote. As a technical expert you will have a key role in project work, while also cultivating relationships with existing and new clients. You will work to achieve our goals of a profitable operation and a supportive and inclusive work environment. You will be a key member in our national traffic engineering practice and work with our South Carolina transportation leadership to grow traffic engineering in the state.

The ideal candidate has previous leadership responsibilities and traffic engineering expertise including:

  • Capacity and Microsimulation Analysis
  • Safety Studies and Crash Predictive Analysis
  • Traffic Volume Development and Forecasting
  • Traffic Studies
  • Signal Timing and Design
  • ITS Planning and Design

Responsibilities:

Project Delivery & Technical Excellence

  • Serve as a leader delivering traffic engineering services for SCDOT and local clients.
  • Actively manage projects and discipline specific tasks including performing project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget, and quality management).
  • Administer quality management plans and perform thorough, detailed reviews of project deliverables.
  • Work with leaders across the firm's national traffic engineering practice to develop industry-best technical strategies and procedures.

People Development

  • Supervising, coaching, and mentoring junior engineering staff.
  • Recruit qualified staff at the skill and experience levels needed to promote team growth.
  • Establish and/or review priorities and work schedules and coordinates resource needs/assignments.

Client Relationships, Marketing, Pursuit Development

  • Engage in marketing activities to grow our client network and to bring in new work in coordination with our firm's strategic plan for South Carolina.
  • Foster partnerships and relationships with other consulting firms to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for projects.
  • Assist in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win-to-work activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ABET accredited bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • PE License
  • Minimum 10 years of traffic engineering experience including proven technical leadership (decision-making on technical matters).
  • Proficient in production software and design document production.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate with leadership on matters of strategic importance, and can effectively interact and build strong relationships with clients and other key stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) license.
  • Experience successfully delivering traffic engineering projects for SCDOT.
  • Experience leading and supervising a team of traffic engineers.
