Job description

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a System Administrator/Network Specialist or Senior System Administrator/Network Specialist to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

The System Administrator/Network Specialist is responsible for developing, designing, and maintaining the computer network infrastructure (including hardware, software, and installation) that supports the distributed control system (DCS) and simulator, and supports equipment connections to the DCS.


Job responsibilities:

  • Performs moderately complex configuration management and release engineering tasks to ensure new software product operating parameters are documented, comply with standard hardware configurations, and are logistically sustainable.
  • Designs and plans standard ICS network systems.
  • Conducts testing of network systems.
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
  • Provides specific, detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
  • Performs operational analysis and effectiveness analysis.
  • Maintains software configuration management tools to support configuration identification, control, reporting, and delivery of both internally developed software and externally purchased commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software products.
  • Contributes to completion of milestones associated with specific projects
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switchers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • May build and design training models.
  • Errors may cause delays and expenditure of resources to rectify.
  • Works primarily with internal contacts and has some contact with customers and vendors on routine matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities at the Senior level:

  • Evaluates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switchers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • May train software developers in the use of configuration management tools and the implementation of software quality standards.
  • Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
  • Contributes to completion specific projects where erroneous decisions may result in serious project delays and considerable expenditure of resources to rectify.
  • Works frequently across organization and with customers on difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
