Job description

Position Summary

The part-time Lab Assistant for Natural Science Division who is responsible for organizing, maintaining, and equipping the science laboratories as well as assisting faculty outside of and during scheduled lab sessions when needed. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate for Natural Science Laboratories for daily operational duties and to the Chairperson of the Natural and Social Sciences who may assign additional duties as deemed necessary and appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Setting up and breaking down all assigned labs. Assigned labs may vary, cross training is required.
  • Assisting faculty in lab as needed. Must be available as much as possible during labs in case the need for their assistance arises.
  • Working with faculty to help set up all lab exams and practical exams.
  • Covering any lab as needed if emergencies/crises arise.
  • Keeping lab equipment clean and supplies available and organized.
  • Maintaining inventory of evening supplies and equipment.
  • Maintaining technical equipment.
  • Maintaining records of students and their practice times.
  • Driving a van with students to sites of interest in the field
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (associate degree preferred).
  • Valid New York State driver's license
  • Must be reliable and committed to an evening academic schedule.

Salary and Benefit Information

Hourly rate $17.50, approximately 20 hours per week. Monday-Thursday, 1130-530. Daytime hours may vary from semester to semester depending on course scheduling. Some benefits include NYS Retirement, supplemental retirement and life insurance options and employee tuition waiver. Public Service Loan Forgiveness available for those who meet eligibility.
