Job description

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Mechanical Engineer opportunity in Oak Ridge, TN.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting the development of specialized industrial process systems. This role will be responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and documentation of equipment and integrated systems used in demanding industrial environments. The successful candidate will work closely with process, controls, electrical, and project engineers to develop designs from conceptual phases through detailed engineering and construction support.
The position requires strong mechanical design skills, experience developing fabrication and assembly drawings, and the ability to work within a regulated, quality-driven engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, equipment, piping, and support structures for industrial process applications.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, installation drawings, and bills of material.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses related to fluid systems, heat transfer, pressure systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Develop equipment layouts and coordinate system integration with process, electrical, controls, and project engineering teams.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including specifications, calculations, design reports, and construction packages.
  • Review vendor drawings and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Support design reviews, safety evaluations, construction activities, equipment installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and field personnel to resolve technical issues and support project execution.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience in industrial, process, manufacturing, energy, chemical, nuclear, or related engineering environments.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
  • Experience developing fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings.
  • Knowledge of piping and mechanical system design principles.
  • Familiarity with engineering calculations related to fluid systems, heat transfer, pressure systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Understanding of applicable engineering codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, ASTM, and related industry standards.
  • Experience reviewing and incorporating vendor-supplied equipment documentation.
